ok, so i disappeared for eons again! hahaha! I guess I should start detailing certain things!
The most important thing that happened over the last few weeks of my absence was... Karma. Karma is current a 10/11 weeks old Female Ferret whom I saw munching on another ferret's ass at the pet shop. It was one of those "godly" moments where I thought this would be the perfect "karma" for Truffle/Meow/Vagina.
Can you imagine? all the times she smacked Fudge's ass when he was alive, she's going to get munched on by a ferret!
When I first bought her though, since ferrets are considered a pest, and Canberra allows it only by controlling the population, I had to get a ferret license. However, to obtain the license itself, the ferret must be paid for first. since the pet shop demanded boarding fees, and the license took at least 7 working days (not to mention all those public holidays in between), by the time Karma came home, she has already cost me a whopping $400.
She is still so adorable though <3
The other important thing that happened was, work took a turn for the "harder" bit. My current work is basically a children clothings' store, with an emphasis on fun, youth and uniqueness. The best of the range seems to be on the babies side in my opinion though.
However, with the current economic downturn, and since this is a large global company, the company sought to tighten its belts in the most... slave-ish ways. There were some loss of jobs at the headquarters. but considering how many are still employed, I had say at least there are still people with jobs.
The painful thing was, with my arrival as a full time staff, after the initial honeymoon period, they slashed the shifts off of the other part time/casual staffs. some days, there's only my store manager and me, some days, the casuals only worked 2-3 hours. there were times when I felt like i cost someone their source of income.
and then all the casuals went away on holidays. and there was just me, and store manager, and her family when she could persuade them to work. I knew this was a high pressure job when I joined, and the pressure didn't deter me. however, physically, I did get very tired. The one week that I got full on food poisoning drained me entirely. yet I didn't want to stay home, so after 2 days, I went back to work and perhaps did myself in.
I will tell you this though, no matter how unappreciative someone might be way up above me, the people i work for "immediately" are gorgeous. awesome lot of people. it's good to work with them, and work for them.
I can't say the same about the clientele though. Initially, I thought maybe it was my restaurant's reputation as a relaxed family restaurant that brings all kinds through the doors. Now that I have seen the retail side of things though... I have worked for the past 15 years or so. While it has only been in Singapore for the most part of it, I have worked in a range of places to "know" different client behaviours.
and despite how bad people might deem customers who "work" in desker road, or "third world" customers, I have to say, I have yet to see such bad customer behaviours in retail. People leaving mountains of clothes behind: on the racks, on the shelves, in the change rooms.... people leaving poop-stained wet towelettes on the grounds, coffee all over the shelves or just generally damaging things.
it is incredible.
Maybe it is just Canberra.
