i've had the most awesome weekend ever, although i now have a sore throat, and a bit of the sniffles, and i am typing weirdly cos i can't use my right thumb.
friday morning as i was alighting from the car (get a lift from a workmate most mornings) i slammed the door on my thumb. yes. to cut a long story short, a weekend later it's no longer throbbing, i have improved on all sorts of other gripping positions (including strengthening my interphalangeal adductors) but still can't use the tip of my thumb. the nail has a large blue/black splotch on it. it hasn't spoilt my weekend much cos i had the husband to fuss over me and do manly things like carry heavy stuff. also realised doing up bras are hard with no working right thumb!
friday i had a half day at work, checked into a lovely apartment in parnell which is a historic and quite leafy suburb. it was very well located and very comfy. there was a swimming pool (sort of rooftop) which we took advantage of on Sat. but Fri arvo i went to a "lantern festival" carnival in town with K, and it was really a combined CNY/lantern festival thing. very crowded but heaps of lovely food stalls.. then in the evening we went to pick L up from the airport and went for ice creams/supper. back at the apartment just the two of us we toasted my birthday with a nice bubbly.
saturday we slept in, had a walk to the domain and a gorgeous picnic lunch there. then sat about, walked to the museum where we'd taken wedding pics 1 year 8 months ago on a very different sort of day (cold, wet then, hot and sunny this time). after a swim we went to our favourite tapas/wine bar where we'd celebrated our wedding. i got quite drunk! but very happily so. i think the sore throat might be attributed to an entree of chili chocolate gelato and a dish of very very spicy chorizo. but it was worth it!
today we checked out too late for church, but had brunch and spent the afternoon lazing about together in the Parnell Rose Gardens with a view to the sea and it was cool, breezy and simply wonderful, reading/listening to music, napping when we felt like. took a walk to the nearby chapel where we'd gotten married and it looked very different in the bright sunshine. couldn't look inside cos it was closed though. after an early dinner together, we parted at my bus stop for my bus trip back here and L's taxi to the airport. as i walked back from the bus station i felt major pangs of missing him but I'm grateful it's only 3 weeks more and it'll be really busy. midway evaluation on wed! ah! so being busy is good cos the week goes fast.
opened my laptop to 35 new mails mostly FB notices about people wishing me happy birthday (thank you all!) and my lovely nieces singing me a birthday song. thank you everyone for remembering, texting, emailing, FBing, and making my 30th really memorable and full of love!
