so i thought i'd update on my summer so far. it's only been a weekend but i feel it's been fruitful so far.
friday was my last deadline. i submitted my last assignment at like 3am. slept late of course and then got up and had a fairly productive day. got my hair cut which i knew if i didn't bite the bullet and get it done i wouldn't. it's... a change. i don't know if it's the best haircut i ever had but it does remind me of a previous hairstyle (pre spiky) that i quite liked. gotta wax it a certain way. otherwise i look like a korean housewife. not that i have anything against korean housewives.
then i went and spent my first $10 at Knit World. something i wanted to take up for a bit and when L did knitting for her humanities presentation i was hooked! i had to return B her needles and yarn cos i knew if i brought it home i'd never do my assignments. so i went in and met a nice lady and announced i wanted to knit some socks. another customer overheard and offered her opinion: "that's am ambitious place to start". i didn't want to knit a scarf but i think the lady thought i might not be so serious so she sold me an instruction leaflet, a pair of needles (too thin for beginners actually) and a huge ball of acrylic yarn. $10 is not bad even if I only produce a scarf! going well so far :) we'll see how that goes. the husband is amazed in a pleased way. i find him staring at me in amazement cos he says 1) he never thought he'd see me knitting (yes me too) and 2) it keeps me so occupied and concentrated and QUIET. that's a good summer hobby for me since he's got that dissertation due in feb. ha!
saturday woke up leisurely again and stayed home most of the day. some boys came to cut the grass and much as i was indifferent about it at first it's a nice change. less of the nature reserve/jungle look and more of the picnic-able lawn look. nice!
in the evening we went to unipol and tried out the gym. since the students are mostly gone for summer and it's included in the fees might as well make use of the gym facilities! had a good workout first time in ages. so that was productive.
got lots of work around the house/garden but i'll take it easy. the husband is working for two weeks so i'll have lots of time to myself to revert to domesticated goddess and whip things into shape!
still quite amused at the picture i must have made on sat morning. sitting in the sunroom in the sun, with a pot of tea (loose leaf is best!) and mug on the windowsill with my knitting and a hot water bottle on my tummy (for cramps). L was calling me granny for awhile. HA! all i need is a rocking chair. more preferably i would like the coconut chair.
From
LJ pics i tried it in chch and immediately thought it would be real comfy for 1) reading or 2) breastfeeding. disparate, yes, incongruous, i know.
yesterday was lovely and we drove out to hoopers inlet on the peninsula. explored a salt marsh for awhile which was full of tiny mud crabs so that was amusing. everytime we stopped moving they emerged and everytime we moved they darted back into their little holes! that was a major wildlife trip cos i also saw a pukeko, a hawk of sorts and a ferret, which dashed past us on the mud light as anything while we clumped and shlumped away in the mud trying to step on the grassy bits.
wish i had managed to get a picture of the pukeko! anyway then we walked back to the car and sat in the sun reading for a bit, very summer holiday-ish. came home for dinner before church, i made fresh pasta from scratch! quick, cheap and easy but heck of a good arm workout. it was good though in 'ban mian' type pieces cos we don't have a pasta machine and i couldn't be bothered to cut it into tiny strips. i think we'll be doing this again though. easy peasy and really satisfying.
later!
