The rampant misogyny and racism in the comments to the 1-star reviews scare me. (I dare not read the 5-star reviews; my faith in humanity will never recover.) Mostly the number of people agreeing with them and thumbs-upping those comments.
How are people actually agreeing that skinny blonde-haired blue-eyed women are globally considered the most desirable, where *all* men are attracted to such women and *all* women aspire to look like them? Even among races where zero in the population have blonde hair and blue eyes?
How are they managing to argue against claims that this is due to Western media forcing beauty standards on other people, claiming that it's *innate* in all humans; or that men are naturally wired to rape women and dump them when they get old; and then have other people agree with them and going lol u politically correct feminazis need to stop ignoring *teh facts* and embrace *teh truth*? srsly? srsly?
I'm normally not that affected by racism because I'm majority-race-in-Singapore privileged that way, but this... this... SRSLY.
The title itself already irks me. I've heard that theory once in its elaborated form, ages ago, and it pissed me off by how it's basically declaring contemporary heterosexual male standards of beauty as the norm i.e. the idea that females are more beautiful than males, when lots of straight females, gay men, bisexuals and ancient Greeks would disagree. (some don't because lol standardisation of straight male gaze from things like that).
Meanwhile my standard of beauty = 12-year-old boys and lesbians who look like Justin Bieber, kthx.
