(Part One - http://anivad.livejournal.com/632074.html)

Inspired partly by rampant_chaos8's recent entry. This one is mostly tracks from war films, with exceptions.

"Cavatina" by Stanley Myers, The Deer Hunter (1978).

It's hands down one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever, not just in film music. It also has that nostalgia factor because I think my parents used this as a lullaby when I was young. but, yeah. seriously beautiful piece of music.

Main titles from Stargate (1994), by David Arnold.
One of the best credits opening music ever, and one of my favourite scores of all time. Takes a while to build up but it gets really good. Arnold is slated to score the next Narnia film. This makes me happy.

I found an ancient notebook of mine in which I had made a list of my favourite movie scores; some of the usual were there, as well as a few that I had forgotten about. This was one of them: the score to the Wing Commander movie (hated the film, loved the game. loved the game so much. Plus it had both Mark Hamill and Tom Wilson at various points of the franchise. IT'S LUKE SKYWALKER AND BIFF TANNEN. SRSLY HOW AWESOME IS THAT.) This piece is also by David Arnold, though I think the Stargate theme is definitely superior. This one is... safer-sounding. No real climaxes in the music.

Overture from Wing Commander (1997), by David Arnold

Overture from A Bridge Too Far (1977) by John Addison. This one is just awesome and makes me happy. Movie was great too; one of the better war films I've seen. Good bit starts around 0:41 -ish.

Main theme from The Hunt for Red October by Basil Poledouris. Another of my all-time favourites:

"If I Had Words" from Babe by Nigel Westlake. I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THE CAST INCLUDES BOTH HUGO WEAVING AND PAUL GODDARD. IT'S AGENT SMITH AND AGENT BROWN. I knew about Hugo being in it, but I did not know about Paul Goddard. like whoa.

this is the only version I can find (it's the mice one):
