She laid the rose on the headstone for the third year in a row. Her eyes glazed, remembering.
The girl crouched at her mother’s feet, distracted, the lavender of her dress ballooning over bent knees. Tiny fingers curled around a daisy and pulled it from the too-green grass.
“This one too?” Donna slipped from her past, and looked down at the little girl with the outstretched arm. Her bright brown eyes mirrors of his, her little frown wrinkling her nose as his once did.
Donna knelt in front her child.
Small arms clung to her in a hug, daisy forgotten.
