Series: Persona 4
Character: Naoto Shirogane
Timeline: As they go in the Midnight Channel after the Heaven dungeon opens.
Personality: Calm, calculating, serious - these are the perfect words to describe Naoto. She is seen as a rather mysterious and handsome (yes, handsome) figure, though most of the people who know her are just mere admirers (and thus, don't even know her real gender). This is because she prefers to solving cases over interacting with other people - mysteries are something Naoto enjoys. She also takes more dedication to her work such that her co-wokers could finally acknowledge her as a sound detective.
There are, however, some times where she loses her cool. At these times, the stoic Naoto blushes and stammers, and one can even notice the unexpected rise of her tone. These usually happens when she is dragged into their team's social gatherings, especially when she is forced to be rather feminine on such things (take that Beauty Pageant, for example). This also happens when people mention about her rather feminine assets, as well as, on rarer occasions, she gets angry. However, even this rage is controlled to a certain degree.
A detective is someone who pursues the truth, and Naoto is no exception. She doesn't stop until all the details of a case are clarified, and even puts her life at stake just so she can gather enough clues in order to determine the culprit. She works most of the time alone (see difficulties in social gatherings alone) but she does appreciate cooperation when she is offered on it. While she has poor skills on making friends, she does cherish the ones she does earn.
Background: Naoto was very young when her parents died in a car accident, and so was adopted by her grandfather. She loved her parents very much, despite the small time they spent togehter. Soon, Naoto also came to love their professions as well, and so she decided to follow their footsteps and become a detective.
Being socially inept, Naoto spent most of the time reading mystery novels - she preferref Sherlock Holmes to dolls, and making gadgets over make up. Soon, Naoto developed a good sense of logic, and deduction and even started to solve real-life cases. Her popularity grew, and so the police department even started to ask for her help.
But alas, the criminology department is a male-oriented society, and their pride is even scorned thanks to a mere teenager solving the crimes they couldn't even make heads or tails of. And so, they started to discriminate towards her, refusing to admit how great her contributions were. Naoto, of course, didn't like that that she was treated as a child, and so tried to act like an adult. Furthermore, she even hid the fact that she was female, and even became more comfortable being referred to as a guy. Still, it didn't really change things - the police still looked down on her, and yet her popularity still grew - they even called her the "Detective Prince".
Time passed by, and eventually the police department from Inaba came to ask for her help - the province was suddenly struck by a series of murders, the cause of their deaths unknown as well as having the most unusual of crime scenes. The case seemed both baffling and interesting, which cause Naoto to accept the job.
During the case, a series of kidnapping and yet another murder suspiciously related to the earlier ones took place in Inaba. From this, Naoto was able to derive more clues than the Police Department could.
First, the kidnappings. There was one factor that tied it to the murders - all of the victims were seen on TV a few days before they disappeared. Furthermore, the kidnapping victims were all attending Yasogami High. And finally, all of the kidnapped victims were saved later on, and even seemed to be grouping together, led by three students of the same school - Souji Seta, Yousuke Hanamura, and Chie Satonaka. In fact, they even looked like they were trying to solve the cases as well. Naoto suspected that they were the reasons why the next targets weren't found dead.
And yet, the third murder broke the pattern. The victim did not disappear before his body was discovered, he wasn't seen on TV, and they knew he was killed by blunt force trauma. Furthermore, the deed was done too recklessly - immediately they nailed the murderer to be one Mitsuo Kubo. While Mitsu claimed to be the one responsible to all of the murders, Naoto found the situation to be a bit too out of place, and so concluded that Mitsuo was but a copycat killer, and that he third murder had nothing to do with the rest of the case.
However, the police didn't want to believe her - they just wanted to wrap it up as fast as possible. And so, Naoto chose her final option - Souji Seta and his team.
Naoto then transferred to Yasogami High (as a male, of course) and got herself acquainted with them. Eventually, thanks to a bit of liquor (yes, they're underaged. weird things happen in this game.) and a certain something called the King's Game, Naoto managed to find out that they were entering TVs (what), fighting Shadows (what) and summoning Personae (WHAT). Obviously, Naoto didn't believe this and assumed they were just pulling her leg. However, she still believed that they were saving the victims. And thus, with complete trust on them, she made herself the next victim.
Of course, for Souji and his gang, it was the same thing all over again - go into a certain location on the Midnight Channel, pwn some Shadows, and look for Naoto. Eventually they reached her, and as they probably expected, also met the representation of her innermost feelings - her Shadow.
Her Shadow looked like it had MPD case - one time it was a crybaby, the other time it was like a cruel ice queen. Her Shadow released all of her resentments - of being treated as a child, of being femalr, of never being able to become her ideal detective simply because of her age and gender. Naturally, Naoto rejected all of this at first, and so the Shadow became yet another boss monster for Souji and his party to take down. After this, Naoto admitted that she did feel like that, and so the Shadow became the Persona Sukuna Hikona.
Naoto gave herself a couple of days to rest back in the real world before finally discussing the case with Souji's team (as well as joining them). With Naoto's kidnapping, it has been proven that Mitsuo is, indeed, not the real killer. However, being back to square one, they were forced to wait on the appearance of a possible kidnapping victim.
...And the victim turned out to be Souji's dear cousin, Nanako.
However, at the same time they finally managed to discover who was the kidnapper - Taro Namatame, a man who had ties with the first murder victim, Mayumi Yamano, Trusting the police to find and apprehend the guy (Nanako's dad was a detective, and so believed Naoto's claims about the case), the group ventured towards the TV world once more in order to save Nanako.
Abilities/Additional Notes: Being able to face her own Shadow, Naoto has been able to acquire a Persona of her own - Sukuna Hikona, of the Fortune Arcana. This Persona specializes in Light and Darkness attacks, as well as having resistance with the same elements. This Persona is also able to execute strong Physical attacks. Her trump card is the Almighty spell "Megidola". Persona skills aside, Naoto is also able to use a revolver during battle. She also takes strategic moves, taking her time analyzing the enemy before hitting with a brutal strike.
Of course, Naoto has abilities other than fighting ones. There's of course, her great skill in deduction and logic - she's a detective, after all. Furthermore, given the right materials and tools, Naoto is able to make simple gadges, specifically ones that can help with detective work - it was one of her hobbies when she was a child.
Also, Naoto will never ever reveal herself that she is female, unless this information has been revealed due to special circumstances. In order to avoid infomodding (Naoto looks and sounds male - a normal person would not notice that Naoto's a girl), Naoto would be referred to with male pronouns in tags and logs, unless she is speaking to someone who knows of her real gender.
Sample Journal Post:
Greetings.
My name is Naoto Shirogane. I am a detective who was in Inaba, Japan, prior to this incident. Please take some of your time listening to this recording.
Due to the circumstances before I was sent in here, as well as my current condition, I believe that I was not kidnapped by normal means. I was not bound, gagged, or locked in any secluded area. I was not harmed in any way, and none of my possessions were stolen. The only change, so to speak, is the appearance of this communication device in my pockets. If there is a culprit behind this, then he would have wanted me to use it.
As I found out, this device is connected to a network and so the suspect would have probably wanted me to communicate with the inhabitants of this area. It is, then, possible that I am not the first person who originated from another area and has been forcefully taken in here. It is most likely that all those who ended up in here received this similar device right after their arrival.
The purpose is this post is to ask for information - the nature of this place, for one, as well as any authorities present. Furthermore, if anyone knows the reason why I was sent here, as well as a method of getting out, I would be glad to hear from you.
Finally, if anyone managed to find any inhabitants of Inaba in here, please contact me immediately.
Thank you.
Sample RP:
Defeat - the sensation of losing a battle, of failing. Of being able to do your job at its finest. Of being mere inches away from the goal. For Naoto, defeat is not an option in her detective work. But alas, it happened.
She curses her as she runs towards their Senpai's house. Even though she had an umbrella at hand, the rain kept pouring down on her, forming dark spots in her jacket and her hat. But it didn't matter, for now she must be at haste. They were all positive on who was the next victim - Souji-senpai's cousin, Nanako. Of course, how could she have not noticed it? Who else had a small stature who was seen - or in this case, heard - in TV during this month? But now wasn't the time to dwell on one's mistakes. She had to get there fast or else -
Finally, Naoto managed to reach the Dojima residence. One look at the front of the house, and she can already deduce what transpired while she was alone. Quickly she reached for her cellphone (in the rain, yes, but she made sure the umbrella's covering its entirety). Only beeps were heard admist the surroundings.
A few more seconds and Yousuke Hanamura answers.
"Naoto-kun? What is it?"
"We were all too late."
