"You know, you could have jutht TOLD me what you were planning, inthtead of messaging me and waiting for me to see it," Ψiioniic commented as he emerged onto the level where Signless was waiting. "Considering how difficult it ith to get at the network. Thtupid lack of computers." He and Sollux really needed to get on building one of their own, somehow.

"Sorry. I got into a pissing match with That Bitch," Signless said, unrepentant. "And I figured I had better get the word out instead of going to knock her on her excessively pompous ass."

There was no question who 'That Bitch' might be.

Ψiioniic's mouth twisted in something that was almost a smile. "You too, huh? She'th riding my ass for something, I don't know what, yet. It'th hard to tell her 'no' when I know you need her behind you on this, but I don't want her to get the idea that I'm thtill at her beck and call." That, and it was still difficult for him to tell her 'no' at ALL, but he was hoping it wouldn't come to that.

It depended on what it was she wanted from him, exactly.

Signless scowled suddenly and sat up, twisting around to face Psiioniic squarely without getting up from his seat. "Don't you dare give in to her for that stupid reason. Really, is your thinkpan working, or do I need to rattle it up a bit? You actually think that I would prioritize being allied with that piece of slitherbeast meat over your safety? If hurting you is the price, then our alliance is over right now."

"Calm down, SS, I don't know WHAT she wantth me for," Ψiioniic soothed him, moving over to his moirail and setting his hand on Signless' shoulder. "It could be thomething innocuous for all I know. We'll see. Just becauthe she'th a bitch and my former owner doesn't mean I should automatically refuthe to do anything she wants of me without even finding out what it ith."

"Maybe it does mean that. Didn't you ever think of that?" Signless said peevishly. But he calmed down a little at the papping, scowling at the wood back of the pew in front of him. He didn't like working with the Condesce, even if he did feel it was worth the price. Hopefully. It just pissed him off, out of principle.

"I've thought about it," Ψiioniic said, as levelly as he could manage. "But it'th my choice to make, in the end. Isn't it?" It HAD to be, because otherwise he'd just traded one sort of owner for another, and he knew that Signless would never do that to him. Protectiveness might make him want to shelter Ψiioniic 'for his own good', but in the end Ψ was confident that Signless would allow him to stand on his own two feet.

"I'll try to make sure you don't have to rethcue me from her too often, though," he said, trying to sound like he was teasing instead of being serious.

Signless' scowl deepened a bit. "I wasn't trying to stop you," he growled. "Of course it's your choice. If it weren't your choice, I'd be saying 'Psi, you stay away from her or I'll beat you to within an inch of your sad, sorry excuse for a life'. I'm just expressing my opinion about the wisdom of fucking around with her when I know how fucking emotionally fragile you are to begin with!"

He slumped down a bit. "And I'll rescue you as many times as I have to, so shove that between your shame globes."

Despite his best efforts Ψiioniic cringed back a little from the force of Signless' growl. It had taken him a lot more effort than he wanted to admit to talk to the Condesce like she'd been a normal person he could show attitude towards. That didn't leave him much for dealing with his moirail's bursts of rage, even though he KNEW it wasn't really directed at him.

The last words let him recover a little, and he tightened his grip on his friend's shoulder. "I know you would. That'th why I'm going to the effort of making sure you don't HAVE to, tho that we're not getting ourselves killed every other night."

At the sight of the cringe, Signless reached out and dragged Psiioniic against him, papping his cheek lightly and giving a soft 'shoosh'. "I don't want to see you dying every two minutes, either. I just don't want you hurting, okay?"
