[Good morning, fellow abductees of the Tower. There is a cheerfully smiling man in a lab coat on the terminal feed now and there's nothing you can do about it! Well, okay, you could just walk away, but where's the fun in that? He gives the screen a little wave.Hello, hello! Done poking around our strange new prison yet? No? I guess you won't be ( Read more... )

Where's the Britannian Empire?

I was thinking about trying to get mine off with alchemy but I can't figure out what it's made of. And they might be important, too.

[Hmm. That's the second person who didn't know of the Empire. Iiinteresting.]

It's a lot of places! It's made up of the North, Central, and South American continents for the most part.

Alchemy? I don't see how anything like that could help.

American? I'm sorry, I haven't heard of those either.

I could alchemically rearrange the composition of the collars to break them apart. But the problem is that I'm best with plant-based materials, and like I said I don't even know what these are made of, except that they seem like some kind of metal.

What countries have you heard of?

[he can do what now]

Mostly plastic, I believe.

What do you mean by 'alchemically rearrange'? Change the chemical make-up of an object or?

I'm from Amestris, but I know of a few others. It borders Drachma, Aerugo, and Creta, and Xing is across the desert to the east.

[he can do the best thing]

Oh. I'm not very good with plastic.

Yes, sir. Alchemy is the science of understanding, deconstructing, and reconstructing matter. [how does he not know that...?] So if I knew the chemical composition of these collars...

You have never heard of my countries and I have never heard of yours. Isn't that curious?

I was under the impression that alchemy had been discounted ages ago, though it did make a few contributions to early chemistry. So, do you turn lead into gold?

Yes, sir, I don't really understand. [thank goodness for typing, otherwise he'd be stuttering so hard]

No, sir, I mostly work with plants and materials made from plants. Alchemy has been around for a really long time. It's still a real science.

It's been downgraded to a protoscience in my time, though I would be interested in seeing what it is you can do with it!

I've never heard of it used in conjunction with plant life before.

Protoscience? But that doesn't make sense.

I can show you if you'd like.

I believe we are experiencing some timeline discrepancies, so what makes sense to you may not make sense to me.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Excellent! I shall look forward to the demonstration, Mister or Miss Alchemist!

[Nooo idea who he is talking to. Hello, text.]

Timeline discrepancies? What do you mean?

Oh, I'm sorry, I should have said. My name is Fletcher Tringham.

The country I serve does not exist to you nor the others I have been speaking to, yet there appear to be a handful of similarities.

Different histories, different timelines. That is the theory right now, anyway.

Hello, Fletcher~

I guess that explains why the letter said that "my" world was destroyed...

[this is so weird]

An easy mistake to make. We had no way to know we weren't from the same place until actually comparing notes.
