Title: To Pierce the Heavens
Author: freebacon
Ratings/Warnings: PG-13, just a bit of drug use for now, future violence and GAR. All OCs, for now.
Summary: I really don't know how this happened. It started off as a fic celebrating the re-release of Animorphs and set after the war. And then it turned into an Animorphs/Gurren Lagann crossover...somehow. Not that obvious yet, though. Concrit encouraged.

This is a tale of how it all began.
Before that fateful dig in Jiiha
A tale of how a group of people
First discovered a terrible and awesome power
And tried to pierce the Vault of Heaven

During his stint in the military, Prince Kelemvoz-Rantil-Estrid found that, even when times were tough, he should be thankful for what he had.

For example, yes, they ended up stuck on Earth, but at least they were in a space port, correct? And, while Earth went through temperature extremes that could, in polite terms, be described as schizophrenic, at least humans perfected the art of climate control indoors. True, he could hardly leave the hangar itself (what, in over 100 degree weather? Madness…), but at least the humans were thoughtful enough to build it big and wide. The giant skylight is a nice touch, he mused.

But when a fellow Andalite showed up to fix his engines, he was surprised to find it was someone he knew. A Warrior under his former command, though to be honest, it was a stretch to call Lirem an actual ‘Warrior’. He earned the rank, but he shied away to being a medical officer. That never stopped him from tinkering with machines though, which Kelemvoz guessed he should be thankful for that. Though to be thankful for this chance meeting…he was unsure. He hadn’t seen Lirem in years.

Kelemvoz gave a start and swung his stalk eyes around to find Lirem clopping out of the ship in a rather clumsy fashion.

Because that would be just his luck, wouldn’t it? Lirem shrugged, perhaps one of the habits he picked up while living Earthside for all these years.

A…computer problem? The rest of the ship’s programs are fine. Jastan checked and rechecked the programs just to be sure! Kelemoz balked at this idea and lowered his stalk eyes.

This…this was a surprising blessing, wasn’t it? Kelemvoz managed to answer, after weighing the situation. It was important that they return to the Homeworld, and they couldn’t afford to wait.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Jastan was stunned, and she soon found herself logging on to check the programs once again.

Kelemvoz sounded a bit defeated and was at his companion’s side soon enough.

Jastan was flipping through the programs as fast as possible, still at a loss.

<…That is possible, but who would bother to infect our ship?> And when, for that matter? They were just a private transport ship, unaffiliated with the military, and no one would bother to target them. Just a ship run by a former Prince and his wife…

Jastan soon became frustrated and logged off. She finally turned to her husband and tried to ‘smile’ (as best as Andalites can, anyway.)

Better than he last remembered, but then, memory is a fickle thing, no matter the species. He leaves this next thought unsaid, but he was thankful (and surprised) that Lirem didn’t go all-out nothlit during his stay. Jastan gave a mental chuckle and started trotting out of the main bridge.

Oh, he had his suspicions. If things hadn’t changed that much, then he thought it involved a certain human injured in combat, but he let this thought slide. Jastan paused, swinging her stalk around and looking a bit worried.

<…Jastan?>

Kelemvoz stood stock still, and yes, he did hear some hoof beats echoing from around the entrance. He sounded relieved. At least, he hoped it was Lirem and not that damnable ‘tourist’. He sincerely hoped it was the former. Jastan just swung her stalk eyes to the side, her You idiot gesture and spoke again.

He did, and eventually heard another person walking around, but something was off. It had a constant and muffled thump, thump, thump. A pause, then another series of them, like…someone walking around on two legs.

Oh. Oh well…this is going to be interesting.

Jastan was floored.

She asked as if she was also asking her husband if she were hallucinating. Whatever. Kelemoz learned a long time ago to just go with any surprises that came along.

This was no stretch of the imagination by any means. After the War, he noticed that humanity was quick to grasp (and improve) any technology that came their way, even noticeable in just a few years. Besides, an outsider’s perspective was always needed.

Let’s…get this over with, at any rate.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

“And the engines look fine?” He could hear the human before he saw it, and already he was surprised. That was a female voice. A familiar female voice, at that.

Lirem didn’t even bother to speak privately to this human, a blessing, really. Everyone on board had to be in on this conversation, after all. Everyone except the missing tourist, of course. The human let out a “Hurmm” sound and tapped her feet, as if lost in thought. That or her mind started to wander. That happened quite often with humans. There was a bit of silence until Kelemvoz and Jastan showed up. Lirem was the first to notice.

It was an honest question, and one that Kelemvoz had to think about as he stared at the human in utter shock.

Being a relatively new species, humans had a number of different looks and features, if one bothered to look carefully. That long black hair held back by some unnecessary tinted lenses, the pale furless skin, the eyes a weird mix of brown and green that exuded utter boredom…yes. Yes, he recognized her, despite all these years.

He gave his wife a little nudge forward. The human blinked, perhaps in shock at being recognized, and smirked. Not quite a smile, but clearly showing amusement. Jastan was shocked as well.

The human shook her head.

“Linda’s fine. Pleasure.” After she held out her hand and the Andalite didn’t do anything, she sighed and took Jastan’s hand, shaking it. “You guys are…?”

Linda seemed to be amused, as the smirk broke into a spaced-out grin.

“Cute. Couldn’t stand military life, huh?”

Now that he was thinking about it, he should have mentioned that privately, since he received a jarring tail blade smack on the back of his head and a glare. Linda snickered.

“I’ll bet. So…” Linda then took out a pipe and lit…whatever was in it. The resulting smoke was sweet and not like tobacco, so he wasn’t about to complain. “Computer troubles,” she breathed out along with a puff of smoke.

“Eh.” She shrugged and started walking towards the bridge, not waiting for anyone to show her the way. “College. You know…” She said as if this explained everything.

<…I’m going to go eat.> Jastan muttered, more confused than anything else.

Kelemvoz stared as Linda continued on, Lirem following her like a lost foal.

Linda Callahan had two arms once again…
