Marco Ships...

Honestly...does anyone else feel Marco got jipped on the pairing end of things? Poor guy was the best character, in my humble opinion, and just got the brush off from the ladies! He was adorable and funny! Shouldn't have gotten the haircut though, long hair Marco ftw ( Read more... )

I can understand your views, and I'm very sorry if I offended. I have nothing personal against same sex relationships, just so you know. And I suppose since I ship many non-canon pairings myself, I was out of line. I guess it was just me attempting a joke on my own weariness over all the pairing that I view as changing a character's sexuality. It was made in poor taste, and I apologize.

For the record, though, I would have the same reaction if someone took a character I viewed as clearly intended to be homosexual and made them straight.

As for your arguments regarding Marco's sexuality, I suppose I didn't detect them because I would have done the exact same things as a straight best friend. My fellow females, when viewed as cherished friends, have always been like family, sisters. And I would do anything for family! So to me, it's an obvious thing to swear to protect your best friend.

I comment on friends being pretty all the time. Just because I appreciate the aesthetics of someone doesn't mean I'm in love. In my case, I read it as an underlying self confidence issue, secretly comparing himself to Jake and having to reassure himself that he, Marco, was in fact good looking as well, just in a cute way rather than handsome.

I'm straight as a stick, but can explain the things Marco thought through my life experiences as well.

Again, not trying to offend, just reasoning that I'm not wrong in seeing no signs that he wasn't straight in my own interpretation.

I do thank you for enlightening me on why people interpret his character as homosexual, though. It makes it easier to understand. I always interpreted those actions as platonic, and from the perspective of one who has lived with Major Depressive Disorder. Which of course Marco wouldn't openly display if he had, he'd show his happy face, but inside he's struggling, that was easy to see with his mother, but I spread it further I guess.

Hon, you really need to get over 'seeing a character as straight' because there's no signs of being straight. Other than a character professing themselves to be straight (and even then...).

Your seeing a character as straight inherently blinds you to any other possibilities. It's not changing his sexuality when his sexuality is never made clear. If all you see in a story is a character eating an apple, do you assume that character is a vegetarian? Or do you think it might be a bit narrow-minded to assume a character's entire palate (and exclude a changing palate) from a few different scenes of them eating?
