Animorphs #1 - The Invasion
Summary
Sometimes weird things happen to people. Ask Jake. He may tell you about the night he and his friends saw the strange light in the sky. He may even tell you about what happened when they realized the "light" was only a plane - from another planet. Here’s where Jake’s story gets a little weird. It’s where they’re told that the human race is under attack - and given the chance to fight back.
Now Jake, Rachel, Cassie, Tobias, and Marco have the power to morph into any animal they choose. And they must use that power to outsmart an evil that is greater than anything the world has ever seen…
Prompt
Prequel - Create a work based on the time before the books take place. It can be the morning of, the night before, or 10 years ago, as long as it’s something that happened before that Friday night at the mall.
Questions
- The first book, obviously, introduces a lot of characters. Give us your first impressions of everyone. Of the group as a whole. Imagine you are reading the series for the first time (or remember when you did); what do you think will happen to them? How will each character handle the challenges before them?
- Denial. Obviously the book is short and they couldn’t spend too long dwelling on that stage, but discuss how the kids reacted to Elfangor, both that night and the days after. Do you think it was realistic? How would you have reacted in the same situation?
- Each of the kids have different motivations driving them throughout the book. Discuss the ins and outs of what’s driving them. Does it make sense to you? Are their reasons valid? Do they have to be?
- Discuss The Sharing and their approach to getting ‘full members.’ Is it an effective angle? Would you be interested, in either full or associate membership?
Rules
- Common sense: be nice, be literate, be mature. If you can’t handle that, we’ll ask you to leave.
- Start on topic. If your conversation takes you into the land of ferrets and their evil quest to take over the world, run with it. But please at least start off talking about the book or subjects at hand.
- The questions and prompts are optional. Do not feel obliged to keep your comments only to what we have posted. They are a guide, a starting point, not a limitation.
- There is no time limit.
- Don’t delete your comments, unless it’s for the purpose of fixing typos.
- Keep your discussion to the current or previous books.
