This is for Shelby! Im sorry its so late. >.<

1990: Tokyo, Japan

“You pwomise you’ll be back wite?” The boy who you’ve had a crush on your entire five years of life stood in front of you. His eyes were misted with tears and his small bottom lip pouted outward. His cheek had a small smear of dirt from where he rubbed his tears away.

Twin droplets of tears streamed down your face, “I’ll be back. I promise.” You gave a giant “big girl” hug to the only best friend you ever had. “You have to grow up and become famous, ok? That way I can see you on the TV and come find you.”

“Nn. I’ll become the most popular EVER.” The little boy gave a tearful toothy grin. Then your mom started to pull you away. His grin faded and his face scrunched up in thought.

“I’LL BE FAMOUS! I’LL FIND YOU IF YOU BREAK YOUR PWOMISE!” He shouted as you were pulled away from your first love.

You watched him get farther and farther away as your family drove towards the airport. You stared out the window until the boy who had your heart was only a distant memory.

2010: New York City, New York [US]

You heard footsteps charging down the hall outside of your classroom.

WHACK. Apparently the runner had smacked into the door. Wincing, you knew who it was before she opened the door.

“HARU-CHAN! I have MAJOR news!!!!” Your best friend rushed over to you. She was panting from obviously running from the library. The only reason why you knew she came from the library was because a much disheveled Mrs. Protrolly came marching in and grabbed your friend’s arm.

“I’ll tell you in a second!” Miyako yelled as she was being dragged out the door.

You watched as the librarian snatched a book from Miya’s arms and whacked her on the head with it.

After a five minute scolding from the ‘Troll’ Miya came back in rubbing her head. “THAT HURT!” She whined. You heard her grumble, “At least I’m not a troll-lady from the pits of the historical science fiction section. PFFT.”

“Nice come back there… I’m guessing you were on the internet and took off without checking your books out… again.” Miya had the tendency to forget everything and do random impulsive things. Like when you suggested that you guys should go to Disney and SeaWorld in Florida, she instantly flocked to a computer and started looking up prices and plane tickets. She just did things without thinking. “So what’s going on now that has you all excited?”

“JIN! Jin is coming to New York. He’s coming HEREEEEEE! Hahahahaha!” She bounced up and down like a rabbit, with a smile spread across her face. “We have to go! I wanted to go to the LA concerts but nooooo. Your parents were like, DENIED. Talk about depressing.” Miya sighed, and then perked back up. “So yea, he announced that he’s coming here on the thirtieth. The day after your BIRTHDAY! Isn’t that perfect!?! Your parents have to let you go, right? Right.” She started rambling details of hotels and bus fare while your brain tried to catch up with her words.

Jin. Jin Akanishi was coming to your hometown.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You and Miya were lucky enough to get decent seats toward the front. She had been ready once the tickets were released online, refreshing the page every second to see if they posted them. The both of you [and hundreds of other fans] stood outside waiting to get in hours early. It was HOT. To top it off, it was humid, so it felt like you were in a tropical rainforest. The sun bore down mercilessly, making everyone uncomfortably hot and sweaty. That did not help the nervous flutters in your stomach as you waited. You glanced nervously at the clock on your cell phone.
5:25. They were letting everyone in at exactly 5:30pm.
It’s been twenty-two years. He probably forgot the promise. You couldn’t stop the thoughts of what the chances were that he would recognize you. You rolled and unrolled a flyer you got from a person advertising their club or bar.
5:30, it was time to go into the concert arena.
Hundreds of girls [and about ten boys] shuffled into their seats. You and Miyako moved to the fourth row in the front.
After a while, the lights dimmed and the hosts came out. Introductions were made, a small performance was held. Then HE came out.
His clothes were exactly what you were expecting. Baggy dark blue jeans, a loose tank top with random graffiti-like lettering, and a black and white striped hoodie. The hood and his hair was shielding most of his face. That was until he started dancing and he pulled the hood back. [as the crowd goes wild, YEAAAAAAA xD]
You watched as he twirled his hips, grinded to the music, and sang his heart out. You knew he was singing his hopes and dreams out on the stage, trying to prove that he could stand on his own two feet without his previous groups support.
He had changed so much since you first met him. Or at least, his outward appearance on shows and performances has changed. He was more confident and knew how to get the audience excited or how to move them to tears just by singing a few verses.
His melodic voice wrapped around you and you watched in awe of the man who still, even now, had your heart.
His eyes roamed through the audience, taking in all the cheering fans. He looked over toward where you and Miyako were standing, and you held your breath. He looked past you, not noticing you. A sigh escaped from your lips. As if he heard it, his eyes darted back to where you were standing. Confusion shown in his eyes, his singing faltered. He continued singing, but kept glancing back at you.
As his show came to an end, he went to the back. The audience cheered for an encore, but your heart hurt every time you heard his name chanted.
“I’m going outside, meet me out there after the show.” You yelled to your friend.
“But it’s almost…” Her words died off when she looked at your face. “Yea, I’m tired. I’ll go too.” You both were making your way out of the arena when the audience screamed.
Jin’s voice rang out above everyone’s, “Haru-chan… the promise we made twenty-two years ago, do you remember?” A confused whisper went through the crowd. You went stiff and slowly turned around. Tears fell down your cheeks.
“I kept my promise, but you didn’t keep yours.” He kept his gaze locked on yours. A few of the girls noticed where he was staring and pointed towards you, whispering to their friends. You quickly turned and ran for the exit.
You made it to the front entrance with Miyako running behind you, trying to ask you to wait. All you knew was you had to get out of there. Someone grabbed you before you could get to the door and yanked you towards a side hallway.
You knew it was Jin without looking. Only he could have the rough but gentle hold on your arm. Miyako kicked him in the leg once he stopped walking.
“I don’t care if your hot or famous, let her go.” She raised her bag in warning. But before she could strike, it was yanked from her hands. Startled, she whipped around to stare into a face that she only knew from performances, magazines, and tv shows.
“Yo Pi. Thanks.” Jin said over your head. Yamapi nodded and you and Miyako stared dumbfounded.
“YA. YAMA. YAMAPI!” Miyako squeaked. She just stared wide-eyed at the idol, gaping like a fish.
You turned to Jin, “What do you want?” Anger was in your voice, but there was no reason behind it. Shouldn’t he be the one angry? Tears threatened to fall, but you blinked them back.
“After all those years, that’s the first thing you say to me? Thanks… I feel so loved.” He had a half smirk on his face as your face turned a slight pink shade. Embarrassed, you yanked your arm out of his grip.
“Can you at least give me a chance to talk? Let’s go to the park. Ok?” He gently tugged on your sleeve, a gesture he used to do when he was younger. That softened your heart to know that some things haven’t changed.
“Fine. Miyako… I’ll meet you at Kinokuniya at 9:30, ok?” Your friend nodded, and you left with Jin.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He laced his fingers with yours as you walked toward Bryant Park. You tried to pull your hand free, but his grip just tightened. You gave up thinking it was just his hand. It wouldn’t hurt.

The lights from the stores lit your path. The windows from the skyscrapers reflected the purple and deep blue sky. Light clouds were speckled throughout, blocking any stars from being seen. [Though, it is a little hard to see stars in one of the brightest cities at night.]

Jin made a slight turn and you realized you were already at the park.

You made your way over to a bench by a small fountain and sat down. [was there a fountain? I cant remember, for the fic…there’s a fountain. XD] You hadn’t realized how much your legs were hurting from standing at the concert for 3 hours.

“So first off, why are you mad? I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong… yet.” He looked confused for a moment, trying to think if there was anything.

“I’m mad because… I’m not really mad. Just so much stress and I was upset at seeing you again.” You let out a frustrated sigh.

“So,” he leaned over and put his arm around your shoulders. “How is my little Haru-chan doing nowadays?” He was close enough that you could smell the sweat and cologne he wore. It was surprisingly not that bad, for a guy who’s been sweating his butt off on stage for the last two hours.

“I’ve been… normal. School is over, life has been good. My parents are still my parents. How about you? Mr. I’ll-be-famous. Here you are. Your own solo concert. You were in one of the top groups in Johnny’s Entertainment. On the covers of magazines. And don’t you even think I haven’t been keeping up. I saw those AnAn scans.” You glared at him. He blushed a bit at your pointed stare.

“Sorry. All the big idols do one at some point. But, I‘m good. I‘m pretty happy at the moment.” He looked a bit sheepish. So you whacked him one on the head. “Ow,” he rubbed the spot.

You looked around you. This was your favorite park because it was small, and it was right by your favorite book store. You watched the water flow down the sides of the centerpiece in the fountain.

A smile broke out across your face. He looked confused by the evil gleam in your eyes. You reached your hand into the water as he started to say, “What are you-”

SPLASH.

His hair dripped from the water assault. You just laughed at his baffled face. Until he started to look mad…

“I’m going to kill you!” He plunged his hands into the chilly water and tried to splash you with it. You just danced out of reach from the water. He reached for you, and you jogged away until he started coming after you.

Screaming you ran through the grass towards the library. Being in shape had its advantages [for him] as he tackled into you, knocking you to the ground. The landing surprisingly didn’t hurt, when you looked to see why, Jin was laying beneath you. Smiling at your tousled hair, he tucked a loose strand behind your ear.

Chills broke out on your skin from his touch.

“I missed you, you know that, right?” His smile lit up his entire face. This was the Jin you had fallen in love with when you were younger.

“I’ve missed you too. But I know you have to go back… in October, right?” Your mood dropped thinking about him leaving.

“You could come with me. I could probably help you get a job with make-up. You still like to do that, right?” Hope shone in his eyes.

“Yea, remember when I used to do your makeup as a kid? You looked so cute.” You laughed at his annoyed face.

“That’s why all the other boys laughed at me.” You swatted at his hands as he playfully messed your hair up.

“You liked it, don’t deny itttt! But seriously, I’ll think about it, ok? I’ve got to get back to Miya-chan.” You started to walk across the street, but was suddenly jerked back. “That’s the second time you’ve done that to-” your voice died off as he wrapped his arms around you.

He was a cool from the water splashed on him, but it felt comfortable to be in his arms. Like it was supposed to be that way. “Don’t think about it too long.” He kissed your forehead and started to walk across the street to Kinokuniya Bookstore.

It took a minute for the hooking horns to register before you realized you were standing in the middle of the intersection. Jin just stood there laughing at you frozen in the middle of the street.

“I’m going to hit you!” You ran towards him and he caught you, still laughing.

You both walked into the store arm and arm, laughing. Miyako and Yamapi were trying to look busy in the magazine section.

“Whatcha guys doing?” You glared accusingly at the two.

They turned and looked at you and Jin with guilty looks. “Nothingggggg” Both said together and started giggling.

You and Jin exchanged gances and you shrugged it off. Face it, Miyako was a weirdo sometimes.

“So let’s shop!~”

~~~~~~~
One Week, and several dates later:
“So, are you going to go with him!?” Miyako stared wide-eyed at you.
“I think I might take off that job offer. That is something I love to do, but never had the chance to try.” You were seriously thinking about it every day. “Plus, it has always been my dream to go back to Japan. If I take this job, I can go back. I will also have an opportunity to travel different parts of Asia. It’ll be fun.”
“You’re leaving out an important part of the equation. Jin. You can spend time with him.” She nudged your arm.
“Yea, there’s that.” You laughed at the smirk on her face.
“So, I’ll go pack my bags.” Miyako got up and went to her room in your two bedroom flat.
“EHHHH?!”
~~~~~~~~~

You watched as he sang his last encore during the last LA concert.

When the song was done, he looked to you on the side backstage.

“Will you come with me to Japan?” The audience screamed, thinking the question was for them. His eyes only focused on you.

You nodded.

The smile on his face outshined the lights on the stage.

He ran off stage and bee-lined straight towards you. Sweat dripping off his face and bare arms.

“Oh no you don’t!” You tossed a towel at his head. He wiped the sweat from his face and arms.

“Am I ok?” He spun around for you to inspect.

“Yup,” you said as he wrapped his arms around you. His lips met yours and you tasted sweat and his unique flavor. Your eyes fluttered shut as he pulled you closer. He was still sweaty but that was ok. You were in his arms, and nothing could be better.
