Ok again been a while since I was.....amongst civilization and the net as most people have noticed.
....and I've forgotten totally about the Carling Weekend festival in Leeds, but to sum it up:
We came, we slept in tent, we saw great bands, missed Incubus *smashes head against keyboard* but I'm over that now, we sang, we drank, we ate....a few weird things, we got hugged by random people and people would ask to kiss you....and 2 of my friends had to hug a glow worm before they could pass, ie they had to hug a human jumping around in a sleeping bag with a glow stick taped to his forehead =D
ahhhh good times good times =D
...nuff said ^-^
Ok lets see what else to say. The weekend 25-27 of november...2005 Lana (a friend of mine, you might remember her as the one who nearly blew us to kingdom come in chem class in IB), and I left for Graz, Austria to meet Marija (another friend who also participated in the nearly blowing up thingy) who is currently studying there. Translation and languages...go figure.
It was a most interesting trip if you ask me. Turns out that in Marija's class there are few people who have german as their first language, most of them are surprisingly are from bosnia, serbia and Croatia. Been to Croatia too, that is where Marija was born actually. So in other words her croatian has improved (I think) and her german suffers a bit, especially since her room mate is also from you guessed it Croatia =D
So I had "sort of" implied to Marija that I wouldn't mind going out when we were there. Turns out that Stephanie is the one who is tired each day we were there...ehehehehe...he
Friday 25 Nov
Anyway the day we arrive we go to the hotel we were staying out the humorous thing there was that the shower door was completely see through, Lana and I were sharing the room.....need I say more =P
Go to an Indian restaurant to eat dinner. After dinner we order a round of schnaps, after we had consumed that the waitor comes back gives another shot and says it is on the house, much to our amusement =D
Moving on, later that night we went out with some of Marija's new friends who had heard about a party in the main university building which was supposed to have a live band. They sort of knew the people playing, they were taking music and could play jazz and that was what they thought was going to be playing. Turns out that the only thing they were playing when we got there at 22.50 was popular music from Bosnia, Serbia and Croatia....and they were definite groups consisting of only people from certain countries...just a tad bit uncomfortable.
Thankfully at 0.00 the band stopped playing and a dj came onto the "stage" and played music you could actually dance too.
Suddenly when Lana and I were talking to Marija a guy pops out of nowhere and starts talking to Marija about something she has no idea about...fun. Later a guy from her class came over and wanted to dance with her and of course Lana and I said she would love too >:D *snicker*
Two minutes later she is with us again, the guy we shall call him Eilert, dances with two other friends of Marija and then me, then Marija....this time his hand slipped a bit..um low. Marija was with us in like two seconds flat. Then I guess Eilert was a bit in the mood to shock so he starts dancing with another guy, Lana and I of course fall into fits of laughter. Lana steps up to Eilert and says "That's not how you do it" and moves Eilert's hand onto the other guys ass, you would not believe the speed at which the two of them shot apart....much to Lana's and my entertainment=D what was really funny was that Eilert's dance partner probably thought he had done it on purpose to cop a feel >:D
01.15 we are back at the hotel, we left kinda soon because the band started playing again and we didn't feel like staying behind to just stand around not understanding anything. Because they didn't feel comfortable speaking english, I couldn't speak german, Lana could speak a bit, so when the band was playing Marija's friends were speaking amongst them selves in Croatian actually....neither Lana nor I could speak that language so you get the picture. Still an interesting evening.
Saturday 26 Nov
We wake up early to go to breakfast because Marija was coming over so we could go out and look around. Marija arrives while we were eating, we go up and take our shower...with a bit imagination we were clean and peep free =D
Marija has had 3 hours sleep so we say ok 30 minutes then we leave..I wake up after about 25 minutes and look at the watch ack 5 minutes left...and hour and a half later we all wake ehehehheehe
We get a better look of the new culture house, which looked like a blimp on the top and a mushroom at the bottom. I have a picture of it somewhere. We figure out that I need a pair of new shoes, I had ones with holes in apparently...find a cheap pair that are water proff and look nice. Find out that the cinema was showing Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightly and Mattew Macfayden *drool* It wasn't as good as the 5 hour one I've seen 4-5 times....but anyway. This new version is good too and romantic of course, and of course they had to cut down since it was a 2 hour movie..not 5. Still nice movie.
We eat at a chinese restaurant and then go to Marija's dorm and sit around talking till 23.50. I take a cab to the hotel, tired as hell, Lana and Marija go to a spanish party I think.
Lana comes home at 1.35am, find out she had been sitting on the couch at Marija's friend's place listening to others talk, as they again were speaking croatian. But she had had fun anyway=)
Sunday 27 Nov
Get up eat breakfast, pack. Then we go out, we walk up to a fortress that had been built in I think the 1800 century. It was nice, you could see nearly the whole of Graz from up there. Coming back down we ate at a bakery where they made the pastries and everything else fresh, you could see them making the doughs and bake it. And the stuff there was just soooo good *drool*
Anyway walk back to the hotel, take a few more pics, of the town hall and the christmas decorations =)
Grab our bags walk to the bus stop. Say goodbye to Marija...forget my shoes in her hands and take the bus to the airport, halfway there I get the text " I have your shoes :)"
Ah well. Get back wtih no problems the flight from Frankfurt was a little delayed, got my mom some chocolates, a shot glass with Graz written on it for my older brother and the wrong type of perfume for my little brother..got him after shave by accident ^-^;
I am actually leaving for Aberdeen today to visit another friend who is currently studying there. Our very own Marianne. So looking forward to that too :)
I am also leaving for India on the 14 of December. On the 2 of January I leave for another area of India...where they have no running water, internet is 8km away which is probably 56kb/month wait an hour for the page to open =)
I will be in a woman's development project the first half of the three months then I will be teaching english to poor children the next half. I don't think it will be a huge problem, the language barrier might be one. And the no running water for three months I am quite sure I can deal with...I spent 4 days in a tent at festival and surrived, I think I shall surrive this too.
