tall tales and short orders

Since about 2 weeks ago, I've been dishwashing on and off at an Italian restaurant called Bellini's in Clifton Park (seraphimwar works there as a salad chef ^_^). The nice thing is that they have really good food there, and every shift I work, I get to request something to eat (excluding desserts). Least to say I make good use of this.

Downsides are plentiful, as you would expect...
1) Floors can get really slippery.
2) When it's busy, it gets *busy*. It's crowded, and people are rushed and agitated.
3) Things have started slowing down. This week they only gave me one shift ~_~
4) They're really bad at scheduling me at times I can work. The one shift they gave me this week conflicted with 2 appointments I had, and I had already given them plenty of notice that I couldn't work.
5) People working there come and go really quickly.
6) They don't teach you very much but instead expect you to learn as you work. So not only do I have to go around asking everyone how to do stuff, but I have to teach all the new wait staff how to put their dishes on the "to wash" station and whatnot.
7) At the end of my shift, I'm soaked from chest to toe and give off the faint aroma of spagetti sauce -_-

One amusing thing about working there is Smoky Joe. He got his nickname because he smokes a cigarette after every load of pans he washes, essentially. Erhm -- This is a little gross, so I'm gonna throw this one in the cut >_<

smoky joe
One of the most recent times I worked at Bellini's, one of the chefs was talking about how funny Joe was (while he was out on a smoke break, of course). He said "No lie: Joe is the only man I know who's crapped his pants on the job here!". Other cooks doubted him and he replied, "No joke -- Just ask him. He was running around yelling Help! I crapped my pants!!!". When Joe returned the boasting chef went right up to him and asked him, "Hey Joe, isn't it true that you crapped your pants here before?", and Joe was like, "Yeah, you got me there! I coughed and sneezed and crapped my pants at the same time! Hehehe! Tom helped me out, though. He told me to go home and change. So I did and came back and kept working." I was trying very hard to suppress my laughter at this point while loading up dishes to go through the machine. The chef said, "Joe, you've got balls! You're the only person I know who isn't too ashamed to come back to his job after something like that happens!"

I told this story to seraphimwar and his response was:
I'd crap my pants too if I coughed and sneezed at the same time. Holy crap.

cosplay picnic
Was a blast! I ran karaoke for 3 hours and I even got to judge the costume contest! There were prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd; and then there were 6 judges' awards. My judge's award went to the one who dressed up as a humanish version of Moro from Mononoke hime for being a clever adaption of an animal XD. The top 3 were:
1) shinobihime -- Some guy from Cirque du Soleil
2) Waitress Mew Pudding from Tokyo Mew Mew (that was pretty awesome)
3) Kouga from Inu Yasha

I ended up singing:
-T.M. Revolution - Burning X'mas
-Yami no matsuei - Eden OP (To Destination)
-BoA - Beside You ~boku wo yobu koe~
-Inu Yasha - Change the World OP (V6)
-Rurouni Kenshin - 1/3 no junjou na kanjou ED6 (Siam Shade)

solledrache, pa & mapquest
solledrache had a huge amount of misfortune recently because the car which she just bought was caught in a flashflood in PA and was totaled. So she needed a ride back from PA on Monday. My Monday was spent driving 13 hours total, which doesn't include getting lost, no thanks to MapQuest. I guess the slightly perturbing thing is that she could have taken a bus back for only a little more than I spent on gas. But I will chalk that up to experience; It's not like my time was completely wasted -- There were just other things I would have rather been doing on Monday.

MapQuest sucks because of this. There were 2 huge mistakes in that which caused me to take an extra hour to get there. It's really the first time MapQuest has been this off for me >_<

Songs learned on the way down:
-T.M. Revolution - Burning X'mas
-Full Metal Alchemist - Undo OP3 (Cool Joke)

halloween cosplay jpop dance
There is one coming up! Those at the picnic decided that Upstate NY really needs a cosplay interest group. Interested in attending? Check out our thread on cosplay.com! There will be:

keeping busy
Besides all this, I always seem to find ways to occupy myself:
-AnimeLyrics Karaoke Contest's submission deadline has been extended again.
-Genericon is finally happy with the latest version of the flyer I made. Now for xerox codes...
-omg_look_music's latest monthly update just went up. That will let me breathe a bit XD
-Animerathon seems to be in good hands while I'll be gone this weekend.
-I'll be in MA this weekend to help my parents with a yard sale ^_^
-I'm the meetup organizer for Japanese Meetup and Anime Meetup, so check it out!
-Something cool is that Digital Thermite Games (VV's ex-mobile department) has contracted me to do some sound conversion for them! This is the kind of thing I'd rather be doing ^^
