It was time. Tonight the vampire would die.

The hunter had everything he’d need in a bag slung over his shoulder. Except for his sword. That he kept in his hand. He’d need to be able to act quickly once he found the creature after all.

Though, it would help if vampires weren’t so much better at sneaking up on people than he was.

“There you are. I’ve been looking for you.”

The hunter spun around to find his target standing behind him, hands in his pockets. He raised his sword defensively.

“As I have been searching for you. You will not live beyond tonight, monster.”

He spoke with more hatred than he’d ever spoken before in his life. The vampire however, didn’t seem to react.

“I know…...In fact, that’s why I was looking for you.”

The hunter frowned, confused. The vampire continued.

“I want you to kill me.”

This obviously took the hunter by surprise. He’d set out to destroy this creature. He’d been prepared for that. But he’d never expected to have anyone ask to have him end their life. For a moment, he almost didn’t want to.
But the thought passed. He knew what it was he had to do.

“You will be shown no mercy.”

“Good. I don’t want any.”

Again the hunter’s resolution wavered. The look on the vampires face…It truly looked like it wanted to die.
He cleared his thoughts once again.

“Your mind games will not work on me. Nothing you can say will make me spare your life.”

“I already told you I don’t want you to. I deserve to die after what I did. I’ve done a lot of bad things in my life. I’ve murdered people. I even killed the person who mattered more to me than anything else. I’ve hunted and drank people’s blood. But I told myself that I’d never turn someone. I’d never make them into what I am. Even if it didn’t work, I still don’t deserve to live for even trying.”

The hunter was silent for a long moment, before lowering his sword.

“Then why did you want me to do it? There are ways that you could finish it yourself.”

The vampire smiled wryly.

“Because I’m a coward. I fear death as well. I can’t trust that I’ll go through with it. It’s safer if I ask someone else to do it.”

…The hunter nodded and raised his sword again.

“Very well…”

Roxas smiled and closed his eyes, letting his younger self advance, swinging his sword for his neck.

In Namine’s room, an envelope lay on her pillow. Roxas had snuck in one last time to leave it.
Inside was his necklace, and a note.

I warned you I was nothing more than a monster.

I’m Sorry.

Goodbye.
