Three days to fall - Part one

Part one of three. DR Spell fic featuring runawaycrayon  and savedfate

The spell hit at 9:00 PM. It would end in four night’s time. Three days. That would be all it would take.

Roxas wandered through the town of the DR. He’d been walking for a while now, not sure what to do. It wasn’t like he had anyone to hang out with.
He paused when he heard music coming from one of the nearby buildings. It sounded like a club. Music, dancing, people. Since he had no one to spend time with, maybe he’d meet someone in there. Couldn’t hurt.

Namine had been lured into the club by the sound of music. Her favorite song to be precise. But it had ended a while ago and she was left sitting at the bar, not sure what to do next. She was used to being alone, but she didn’t feel like it tonight. At the same time, she didn’t feel like talking to any of the many people around. So she just sipped the water the Moogle behind the bar had given her, and continued listening to the pounding music.

He saw her first. There were many people dancing but somehow he saw right past them, his eyes finding the pale girl sitting alone at the bar instead. There were a lot of Namine’s around, but somehow she seemed different. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it. For some reason he liked the idea of talking to her more than talking to any of the others, Namine’s or otherwise, so he approached her.

“Here by yourself?”

She looked at him and offered a shy smile and a nod. “Yeah.”
He returned the smile and took the seat next to her. “How come?
She shrugged and returned her attention to her water. “I don’t really know anyone to be here with.”
“You don’t have any friends?” She shook her head and Roxas frowned slightly. Poor girl. She shouldn’t have to be lonely. Then again, he wasn’t much better.
“Me neither.”
She glanced at him with a sympathetic look which he waved off.
“It’s fine. But really, why don’t you have any friends? You seem nice enough. You don’t seem like you’d have too much trouble making any.”
She smiled sadly and shook her head. “I’m not very good at approaching people, and I guess I’m not good at being noticed either.”
Roxas smiled. “I noticed you.”
She blinked and just looked at him, not really having anything to say to that. Roxas took that as a small victory and ordered a soda from the Moogle.
Namine was still watching him curiously as he took a mouthful of the drink and he chuckled after swallowing. “What? I got something on my face?”
She blushed faintly and looked away again, shaking her head. “No. I just don’t understand why you would take notice of someone like me.”
He sighed and put his drink down. “Actually..” She looked back at him. “You were the first person that I noticed when I walked in. There’s something about you. You stand out.”
At this she chuckled and looked away again, seemingly amused. “I don’t stand out. I’ve never stood out in my life. I blend in, and people look past me. It’s always been like that.”
“I can’t imagine that. I bet if you opened up and didn’t try to blend in so much, heaps of people would take notice of you, and you’d make a lot of friends.”
She glanced at him and smiled, but the smile was replaced with a look of surprise as he grinned and leant towards her. “But for now they’ll have to wait in line. Want to dance?”
She was taken aback, but blushed and nodded. “S-sure..”
Roxas pushed his seat back and stood up before offering her his hand, a goofy smile on his face, and despite her surprise at the sudden request, Namine relaxed and smiled, taking his hand and standing up as well, letting him lead her out onto the dance floor.

He found them a spot with a little room so as not to be jostled by the many people around them before turning to her and stepping closer, placing a hand on her waist and raising their joined hands as she placed her hand on his shoulder.
She was such a shy girl, Roxas almost expected her to not know how to dance, or at the very least not be that good. So he was surprised to see the grace with which she moved.
“You know, for someone who doesn’t spend much time with people, you’re a pretty good dancer.” He was teasing. She smiled and ducked her head a little. “I like dancing. I only really know how to dance in the more classical style though. I probably couldn’t dance like them.” She glanced at some of the other couples around them, dancing much closer, and much more provocatively.
Roxas looked at them as well before returning his attention to her. “Well, do you want to dance like them?” She looked back at him and shook her head. “Not really. I mean, I don’t think I’d dance like that with someone I’d just met at least.” Roxas grinned at her teasing. “Want to come back here tomorrow then?”
She took her hand off his shoulder to whack him playfully over the head. “Nice try.” He laughed.

They danced for a couple of songs before heading back to the bar for a drink. It really was hot out there. They ordered two waters and sat down, still smiling. They had only spent about half an hour together so far, and yet it was starting to feel like they’d known each other their whole lives.
“So you’ve lived here your all your life? Man, I wonder why we never met before.”
“Maybe we did once and just can’t remember it. I mean, with all the doubles here it’s hard to keep track sometimes.”
“No way. Doubles or not, I don’t think I could ever forget you.”
She blushed and looked away, thanking the Moogle quietly as it gave them their drinks.
“Well..You’re right. I don’t think I could have forgotten you either. You’re the only person who’s ever treated me like I’m somebody.”
Roxas gulped down some of his drink, thirsty after all the dancing, before setting the glass down and placing a hand on her arm. “I treat you like somebody because you are somebody. Don’t sell yourself short.”
She smiled at him. “Force of habit. I’m not used to people noticing me, let alone wanting to spend time with me.”
“You should get used to it then. Want to hang out later?”
She tilted her head at him. “When?”
“Tomorrow?”
Namine thought for a moment before smiling and nodding. “Sure. What should we do?” Roxas smiled brightly. “Go to the beach! Watermelon, pretzels, swimming, and ice cream! It’ll be fun!”
Namine found herself laughing a little at his enthusiasm. “Alright then. Sounds go..” She interrupted herself with a yawn, which she quickly brought her hand up to try to cover, but Roxas saw it.
“Tired?” She blushed a little, embarrassed, and nodded. Roxas smiled. “Alright, I’ll walk you home then.”
Namine shook her head. “You don’t have to.” Roxas shook his head as well, looking determined. “Yes I do. It’s late. I can’t leave a pretty young girl wandering around at night like some kind of jail bait.” Namine just rolled her eyes at this and finished her water. “You’re being silly.”
“Am not.”
“Are too.”
“Not.”
“Too.”
“Not.”
She held up her hands in surrender, looking amused. “Whatever.”
Roxas grinned. “Victory is mine! Do I get a prize?”
“You get to walk me home.”
“Sweet.”
Namine just laughed.

They talked more on the way back to Namine’s place. Almost the entire trip they were joking and laughing and wishing that they weren’t so close to saying goodbye. At least for the night.
But of course, they eventually reached Namine’s door and she turned to say goodnight after unlocking it.
“I had fun tonight. Thanks.”
Roxas smiled. “Me too. I’m looking forward to tomorrow already. Don’t forget, alright?”
She smiled back, shaking her head. “I won’t. I’m looking forward to it too. Well, goodnight, Roxas.”
He nodded. “Goodnight..”
She offered him one last smile before walking inside and closing the door. Roxas stood outside it for a few moments before turning to go home himself. He didn’t feel like going back to the club, and he wanted to get to sleep early now. He had a big day planned tomorrow.
