I ended up special ordering Asuka this past month because my source for Darker than Black mysteriously disappeared. Ah... busy summer, beginning of school year... *sigh*
I've never ordered an Asuka so... I was a bit surprised. It's as big as a phonebook, Shounen Jump style, but whereas Jump is on shitty ass paper (A LITTLE tougher than toilet paper, but it STILL bites), Asuka is on NICE paper...
NOW, before I get bombarded by the "YEH, BUT JUMP IS A WEEKLY, AND ASUKA IS A MONTHLY," I can say, "I KNOW THAT."
I mean, chapters for Jump are between 12-20 pages. Asuka chapters tend to be between 30-50... having translated a few now, I can say that. Makes me think that (stereotypically, and not 100% the truth) girls are more willing to wait for good quality and nice color pages (There's a LOT of those in Asuka. EXCLUDING the poster and the small book about Code Gaess I've acquired). I'm willing to wait for better copies than read crappy Jump scans.
AH, and what's ODD is that DtB is as action oriented as any Shounen I've read... but geh... the story stinks. (This, honestly, has more to do with Kana than anything.)
By ch 4, however, November 11 is introduced and, I assume, will be big next chapter. NOW... here's my sitch: WTF is Hei doing HUGGING Kana? UGH!!! I can't STAND it!!! I don't like Kana. It looks like, according to Asuka rules, she'll end up a LOVE interest... which is totally killing my drive. Seriously.
Well, I can wait another chapter to see what happens. NP.
in other less geeky news, GAWD... stressed OOOUUUT!!! Things afoot. GEH!
Oh well... it'll sort out in the end, ne?
To relieve my stress, I ended up downloading the Saiyuki OVA: Burial w/Italian subs, because I haven't found it in English. Ah, Sanzo... watching you gun down yokai is so great... *___*
I also ended up re-reading Prince of Tennis because 1) I had forgotten WHY Tezuka was all FLAMEY and AURA'D up. 2) I didn't know that Taka-san had won his match. I just saw him get his ass beat and I stopped reading cuz I got bored.
This was also because Sazen release 1-13 of the National Tournament and I got to watch THAT, we recalled to me all the things I liked about PoT, namely how very GAY the anime is. Oh, PoT anime... you're such a disappointment. Like Naruto and the 100 episodes of filler. WTF?
I started asking myself, "Where is this going to end?" Is the Prince of Tennis going to end up the Samurai Part Deux? When all the seniors leave, what's Seigaku going to do, since 5/8 of the regulars are seniors? If they take the Nationals (which they'll HAVE to, if this keeps up), then what? The seniors graduate and it's the end? Do we get to see Ryoma in the future, because, shit, he's ONLY 12... so what does that MEAN later on? (See... questions.)
So NOW, thanks to being sick AND bed-ridden, I have caught up on Prince of Tennis, Fullmetal Alchemist, and Naruto. I have to catch up with One Piece and Bleach, which should be INTERESTING, seeing as I haven't read Bleach since they got back from Soul Society. I fade in and out of JUMP series. They tend to bore me if I pay too much attention.
On the other hand, Psych is on tonight, as is Painkiller Jane. Oh, so many ways to kill time...
I haphazardly picked up V for Vendetta, the graphic novel. I forgot how exhausting reading in color was, so it's taken me forever to read it. I get through one chapter and I'm like, "GAWD that was tiring!!!" JM once said it was ALL the crap the artist cram into a panel, versus the emptiness of most Japanese manga. AH, never was it so evident. Except, you know, From Hell was in Black and White, and that was a HARD read for me.
Lastly, the Rottie has been chasing rabbits INTO the cacti. Oi oi... she came in covered with cactus needles. This is like the second or third time. I'm beginning to doubt her intelligence. Too bad she's so cute and just a pup. Adolescent dogs are so AWKWARD and adorable.
