Gensomaden Saiyuki OOOR, it's just that Aries really all DO think/act alike... what a scary thought. -__-;
I think I'll love her any way. She sounds like a riot and we like the same types of guys Characters.
Watching Saiyuki Requiem, which is the movie. I'd place the movie between Gensomaden Saiyuki and Saiyuki Reload since there's no costume change yet. Actually, I want to place it between Season 1 and 2 of Gensomaden Saiyuki, 1) because it relates to things that only occurred in Season 1, and 2) because 27+ are all filler episodes. Sort of. Reading the credits to the movie, it SEEMS Minekura wrote it. So, I'm going to guess that it's just a side story. EHH, but GOJYO was NEKKID and rolling on the floor with a chick wielding a knife, but WHATEVER!! NEKKID GOJYO!
It's also evident from the animation style, but that's what makes me want to place it between Seasons 1 and 2. There was a slight shift in style between the two, and it fits more with Season 1, using the fading out background and bringing the speaking characters' to the foreground.
It also explained a few artbook illustrations in Salty Dog I that made me go, "Huh? Where's THIS from??" Now I know: the MOVIE.
Reviewing
I had read a couple highly favorable reviews of Requiem, so I was hoping it would blow my socks off. It didn't. Not really.
The animation is typical of Gensomaden Saiyuki, with the poor CGI use and integration. Kougaji's group wanders randomly onto the scene. More of Gojyo feeling sorry for some half-blood youkai chick who gets him stabbed. More using the characters' angsty pasts to make them vunerable.
Really. It's getting old. These are plot devices that are repeatedly used in Gensomaden Saiyuki, which I was actually GLAD to see (for the most part) go away in Reload.
Perhaps the thing I enjoyed the most was the villian, who isn't necessarily a villian, but a Sanzo Otaku. It actually was a bit CREEPY, if I might be completely honest.
The thing that was STUPID was the randomness of the Kougaji group. They really had NO POINT except to make an appearance. WEIRD.
Well, regardless, it was... mostly interesting. I don't think I'll watch it again, but the fact I found it makes me happy. Now... I just need the OVAs... *__*
I give Saiyuki: Requiem a "B" for Creeping Me Out.
Fanboys are SCARY.
I need to say something later about Ergo Proxy and Ayalashi. But that's later.
