I don't wanna study... ;___;
I re-read Goong last night. You guys might remember it, since it was a Live Drama, and it's a MANHWA. The one about the chick who gets married to the crown prince of Korea... in a fictional world where there was still a royal family IN Korea? Ah, well... it's not HORRIBLE. It's not GOOD, but it's not HORRIBLE.
In other words, you have to be dedicated and willing to put up 1) politics and intrigue 2) A LOT of friggin' levels of honorifics, depending on who is speaking to whom, what their station is, the place and time... [this has become another reason I WON'T learn Korean...] 3) Whiny heroine and jackass hero... who don't get to an emotional climax until, hm, Vol 14 or so. DAMN.
It's been licensed in the USA, and I really can't imagine WHY? Is it a FILLER story? Just like several other stories I've read, it should have ended at like Vol 10-15. Shoujo just... SHOULDN'T go that long. I find myself leery of any shoujo story that goes beyond 15 volumes. Shonen? It's all blah blah blah 2-3 books of battle, 2-4 books of powering up, 1 book of plotting. Maybe. So it's not unreasonable to see it go ON and ON and ON. But... shoujo? Let the hurting END at friggin' 15!!
My exceptions are probably :Kare Kano, but I kind of think that if you remove ALL the side character crap, it'd be like 10-15 volumes. Glass Mask was worth the ride to 41, only because I'm a sucker for old school shoujo art and a story about performing plays; and that's about it. The rest of the shoujo I can think of ended around 15. AROUND. MORE OR LESS.
(Sailor Moon doesn't count, just because it had to reach a level of COMPLETE BULLSHIT INSANITY before careening off the plot cliff and into a drug rehab. It took like 18 volumes of habitual drug use to reach that level of, "PLOT? WHAT PLOT?! WE'LL JUST MAKE 'EM DEAD THEN NEKKID!!!". Ha. MOONIE I AM CUZ I STILL LOVE IT. MAAAAGICAL GIRLS...IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE... ha ha ha...)
In contrast, I've been reading Oresama Teacher, which is a FUN shoujo (LOW crying factor), and Tamago no Kimi, which is almost and ANTI-shoujo and is a nice change.
Well, then again, I DO like the off-the-wall stuff. Thank god they keep producing stuff that makes the back of my head explode like a scene from SCANNERS.
Okay... guess I should study. ;_____;
