Darths and Droids just made a joke in RotJ which relies on TFA.

This makes me unutterably happy for some reason.

comics, star wars

I mean, yes and no. All of Darths and Droids is predicated on the reader being pretty intimately familiar with Star Wars as a whole. The premise is that, in a universe without Star Wars, the story we know (more or less) is the emergent narrative of a tabletop roleplaying game. It makes a lot of the prequels in particular make so much sense. And it's all done in screencaps from the films.

But a lot of the humor, especially early on, is based around foreshadowing. A lot of the comic is about being aware of your expectations, and either referencing them or subverting them. Honestly, a lot of the prequels is the fact that they are prequels - you've seen the original trilogy and you go into the films with that knowledge of what the future brings. But (for obvious reason) not so the original trilogy.

They've gotten up through about the middle of Return of the Jedi at the moment, and by their very good fortune new Star Wars has come out before they actually need to use it. And so they are able to make calls forward from the original trilogy - which, while a staple of how they handled the prequels, would not have been possible...this time last year.

I dunno, I just think it's really cool, and a reminder that these things exist within time, which is easy to forget, especially if you binge read webcomics well after the fact.

It just seems to me that it would have made more sense to shoot the movies in sequence and then you wouldn't have to worry about going back and forth. Of course, you have a lot more freedom in the print media than on screen.
