Recipe: Tomato Cucumber Salad

Aug 09, 2010 13:01

- half a cucumber, diced
- 1 medium tomato, likewise diced
- fresh oregano, minced
- dill, plenty
- garlic salt
- a small spoon of mayonnaise
- a splash of red wine vinagre

makes a smallish bowlful.

I put just enough mayonaise to make the juices at the bottom of the bowl sort of opaque. Also, my mayonnaise froze and got all separated and gross, so this was largely an excuse to pour off the nasty-looking nayonaise oil into a place where it would be harmlessly delicious. Also, I tend to put LOTS of vinagre in everything - I didn't in this, it was seriously just a splash. And that was as it should be. Sort of halfway between Jerusalem Salad and Tzatziki Sauce. I was pleased with it. The tomato and oregano were from my own garden. Hooray!

I suspect I am misspelling vinagre. Ever since I learned french that word has escaped me.

I apologize for not including a mise en place. I am clearly not as cool as gwen.
