Someone just pointed out that, strictly speaking - from a certain point of view - one of the companions is technically older** than the Doctor*.
Huh. This bears thinking about.
* I take a fairly conservative view of the Doctor's age, and I'm unhappy about how to fit new so-called canon*** together with old so-called canon. But the way I see it he's no younger than about 907 and no older than about 1402. So roughly 2000 (that's 21ish + 1984 + roman background) definitely has him beat.
** Or if he isn't now, was for at least a couple of scenes. And I take the view that if he remembers any of it - which he seems to - then he probably remembers all of it.
*** This is Doctor Who, people. Even taking into account "The Doctor Lies" all canon is only really so-called. (and the fact that canon can be hacked is canon in at least three different ways****. Then again, so is the Loch Ness Monster).
**** Way 1: the TARDIS is an unreliable narrator / the Matrix can be hacked; Way 2: the Time War; Way 3: the cracks in Time
Goodness, I seem to have gone a bit footnote happy. Must be all the Terry Pratchett.
