Man I love Gordon Lightfoot some days...

I'm not ashamed of wearing out my old grey socks
Chasing you around the back woods
I'm not afraid to darn
Or to try to find some yarn
And sew them up once again - that's what socks are for

...or maybe I just like a) songs about darning and b) sweet internal rhymes. I've recently become convinced that the following is one of the single most awesome sets of lyrics ever penned:

I thrill when I drill a bicuspid
It's swell though they tell me I'm maladjusted

The mild cheating on the main rhyme is totally made up for by the overall naturalness of the language and the freakin' sweet internal rhyming. ...and the fact that it's being sung by Steve Martin in black leather at the time, but that's a different issue. Howard Ashman, man. Total freakin' genius.

But yeah, here I am listening to "Black Day in July" on this rainy day in March, trying to find some yarn finish up my grading, and all I want to do is plant bulbs and darn socks. It's a sad state in life when mending becomes extremely attractive - and I simply don't have time to do it. So instead I'm going to camp out in the department and rock out to Canadian folk music - and really, that's not too bad a day.
