So, why does a girl with 300 books still to unwrap and untold more (well, 93) on the unwrapped but unread (and to-read) list, need a new book? Particularly, a book that is actually NEW (and therefore fairly money-costing)?
Making Money by Terry Pratchett, 32nd in the Discworld series, starring Ankh-Morpork's very own Moist von Lipwig, now in paperback, is, I hope, sufficient answer to that question.
This is proving an unfortunate distraction to the day's events. Fortunately, (and rarely among Discworld books) it is blessed with chapters (in the style of Jules Verne, no less) - so of course I can Stop Anytime I Want.
I have recently read that Moist von Lipwig exists as a character to give Terry Pratchett the ability to write books without Sam Vimes in them. I noticed at one point (Monsterous Regiment, I believe) that 8 out of the past 11 books had featured Vimes in some way or another. To give some perspective, I don't think Rincewind has been in 8 books altogether - even if you count Mort. As much as I adore Vimes, his story arc has been rather exhausted - things can only conceivably go downhill from here (which would make me sad, since, as I mentioned, I adore Vimes). Take an example from poor Rincewind - he got his Crowning Moment of Awesome in Sourcery and hasn't really been the same since.
I have so far reached Chapter 4. In the interest of Getting Anything Done Today, I have regretfully (and uncharacteristically) inserted a bookmark.
