Agni
Agni is a kind and welcoming individual who fulfills to his greatest to make others feel welcomed, useful, and needed, when the time is given to him, as seen when he uses the Phantomhive servants to accomplish tasks, when Sebastian Michaelis would instead dismiss them as delinquents. His ability to find the strengths of people and use them has resulted in Sebastian praising him as a capable person. Additionally, Agni is exceptionally humble, frequently stating that he is not nearly as good of a butler as Sebastian and dismissing praise as if he is unworthy of it. He admires and adores Prince Soma, who he believes is a god, and will do anything to make him happy. Even when appearing to betray Soma, he did so only to protect and aid Soma, and is deeply grieved by his own actions. He does his best to remedy any wrong he commits, even at the insistence of others that he forget it.
Aleister Chamber
"Aleister is an extremely flamboyant, dramatic man, with a tendency to call young women "robins" and to compare things to women and girls. He is known for his interest in black magic, and holds underground auctions to go along with his fascination for this. At these auctions, he sells girls and women as pets, individuals to be used in ritual sacrificing, and to be sold as parts. However, he does not seem to necessarily partake in these activities, and simply captures the victims and facilitates the transactions. Due to his great wealth, when caught for holding these auctions, he is able to escape a jail sentence through bribery."
Alois Trancy
"Alois seems to have an overall cheerful disposition, in spite of hardships and misgivings. However, his emotions are quite unpredictable, fluctuating from enthusiastic and hyperactive to angry the next, and he loses interest in things fairly quickly. Alois often uses harsh and impolite language, such as "bloody" or other swear words, regardless of whom he is speaking to. One of his few consistent traits is his attachment and dependence to his butler, Claude Faustus, whose attention he is frequently trying to attract. His horrific childhood, which contained no parental figures, is the likely cause of his extreme need for affection and acknowledgment from Claude. Although his harsh temper was evident even in childhood, his sadistic streak, bizarre promiscuity, and crude language stem from the sexual abuse he received shortly before contracting with Claude. Alois enjoys the authority of a noble he obtained, and utilizes his power sadistically. In order to feel dominant, he abuses others and makes them feel uncomfortable and inferior for the sake of own satisfaction. However, Alois particularly directs the cruelty to Hannah Anafeloz. He often lashes out physically, and demeans her with vile remarks when he believes that she is trying to take someone else's attention away from him."
Angela Blanc
"Angela first comes across as a submissive woman, being beaten by Henry Barrymore in front of Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michaelis. However, she seems to enjoy the role of dominatrix, as seen from her change in outfit and overzealous attitude when she tortures Sebastian. She has an obsession with purifying beings she views as being unclean, even more so than Ash, being nearly maniacal in her efforts to do so. Nonetheless, she is not above using those she views as being unclean if it grants her more power."
Angelina Durless or Madame Red
"In the past, Angelina was quite withdrawn and shy because of her red hair and admired and loved her sister, Rachel Phantomhive. However, in the present she has a crude and frivolous nature. For example, she suggests Sebastian Michaelis should work for her on account of him being handsome whilst stroking his backside. She also attempts to make Undertaker laugh by telling a dirty joke. Her belief is that ladies are more attractive to others if they act innocent, naive, fragile, and cheerful, particularly around their lords. Nevertheless, they should also smile often and appear oblivious to troubles. She appears to care deeply about Ciel Phantomhive, treating him like her own son, and tries to convince him to not pursue in the darker side of society but to aim for a happier life but he insisted otherwise. Soon after, she asks Sebastian to stay by Ciel's side to protect him. The losses of family members left her lugubrious and she harbors a general disregard for human life, as she works with Grell Sutcliff to perform the Jack the Ripper murders. Nonetheless, she cannot bring herself to kill Ciel when encouraged to by Grell."
Ash Landers
"Ash initially appears calm, quiet, and loyal to the Queen Victoria. As an angel, he seems to think himself superior, and is annoyed by the Queen's human qualities. Even before his true self is revealed, Sebastian Michaelis is notably suspicious of him and views him as a vulgar man. He eventually falls into insanity, leading Sebastian to comment he might be a Fallen Angel. When he reveals his true form, it is known that he is the male part of a hermaphrodite angel, although both he and Angela have distinct personalities. In particular, he finds fighting to be exciting, becoming almost maniacal about it, and easily becomes angry when any attention is diverted away from him during a fight, hinting a deeper madness that may differentate him from other Angels."
Bardroy
"Like the other Phantomhive servants, he has a great deal of respect, and a bit of fear, for Sebastian Michaelis. He is also exceedingly loyal to Ciel, and does his best to please both. He is always excited about being able to help, and works hard to attempt to be of use, typically with disastrous results. He usually cooks with a flamethrower or blowtorch, which usually results in some form of explosion. When Ciel and Sebastian are not around, he seems to be in charge of the other servants to a certain degree, such as when he issued orders for the attack against the first-tier circus members. Bardroy is not used to the slow pace of the Phantomhive Manor. He cooks with blowtorches and like because he's used to having all his food ready quickly, like when he was in the war before Sebastian found him. In the anime, Bard's history expanded to include that he was a sergeant in an army, and was shown to have exceptional planning, foresight and fighting skills. After a particularly bad fight, where he was the only survivor, Sebastian approached him and offered him a job at the Phantomhive manor. As a result of these experiences, he tends to keep high-powered weapons on hand and puts things in terms of war, such as when he called mice "the enemy," the manor "the battlefield," and the hunt to catch them "a fight."
Beast
"Beast is very dominating, and is quick to anger when things don't go according to plan, as shown when she scolds Sebastian Michaelis for ruining one of her performances. However, she is also very emotional, and loves and cares deeply for Joker. The other first-tier members trust her very much, as shown when she asks Wendy for advice and seeks comfort regarding Joker. She refers to all of the other first-tier members, except for Snake, as her brothers and sisters, further signifying her bond with them. However, unlike the other first-tier members, she does not seem to hold Baron Kelvin in the same high regard. She also seems more willing to abandon the other children back at the Renbon Workhouse, as she asks Joker if they can run away from Baron. She seems to not like doing the things Baron Kelvin requests of them, similar to the other first-tier members. However, unlike them, she's more willing to seek other ways to get out of the situation, rather than blindly following Baron's orders. Though, with no help or support from the first-tier members, she does not follow through on these plans."
Ciel Phantomhive
"Ciel is a very strict and proud character, with a general cold outlook on life. As proud as he is, his main goal in life is for those who have betrayed the Phantomhive family to experience the same level of humiliation and suffering he did. He willingly chooses to fulfill his revenge, despite his aunt's insistence that he should pursue a happier life. Ciel is extremely loyal to Queen Victoria, and aims to accomplish his given tasks. He is also punctilious on orders, and he expects Sebastian Michaelis, his butler, to complete them accordingly. Ciel often finds it entertaining to challenge Sebastian, whether in the areas of strength or skill. Nonetheless, he and Sebastian work together often, and only his butler seems to be aware and knowledgeable of Ciel's schemes and plans, in contrast to the other Phantomhive servants. Phantomhive is competitive, in which he acknowledges it himself, and his strong desire to win is shown when he asserts that he would not lose to Frances Midford during their hunting contest. He is not appeased to have a draw with Frances, and has insisted for another round until the victor is prominent. Sebastian has noted that Ciel is arrogant and overly confident in his skills to the extent that he has the viewpoint of 'there is no way I can ever lose'. Therefore, there are still some childish traits in Ciel that would need to be corrected by the adult he respects."
Claude Faustus
"Claude has a distinctly apathetic personality, speaking and acting emotionlessly. He does not respond to direct taunts such as Alois undoing his buttons moments after Claude fixed them. However, he is knowledgeable of his master's darkness. He is selfish as well, as many demons are, having an utter lack of empathy for his master contrary to Hannah, and more subtle attitudes of Sebastian towards Ciel. His personality completely changes after tasting Ciel Phantomhive's blood and he becomes attached to it, judging from the fact he left and ignored Alois lying down in pain while licking Ciel's blood off his face. After this, Claude is very different then he was before and appears to become erratic, often acting almost randomly; dancing, making doilies, etc."
Dagger
"Dagger is a flamboyant, dramatic, energetic male who is nearly constantly smiling. He seems to have a great love, bordering on obsession, for Beast, whom he always refers to as "Sis" or "Big Sis." He is always willing to express his feelings for her, frequently serenading her or offering her gifts. He seems to very much enjoy the company of others, as shown when he encourages Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian to make new friends, too. When he doesn't understand what people are saying, he tends to assume they're joking. He is only infrequently shown to be serious, such as when getting ready to go on a mission for Baron Kelvin, but even then, he is quick to make jokes."
Doll
"Doll is friendly and welcoming, making conversation with Ciel Phantomhive after they were named tent mates, and appears to view him as a friend quickly. She easily forgives him when he claims he was stealing items, but lightly reprimands him for doing so. She seems to view it as a necessity to look after him, waking him up when he oversleeps, sharing her food when he does not get enough, and attempting to teach him how to be a better performer. She is a bit naive, though, easily believing lies Ciel tells her, something that the other circus performers have reprimanded her for. She does not appear to be modest, as shown when she attempts to get Ciel to take a bath, offering to wash his back for him, and when she allows him to touch her chest to prove that she is female. She is exceedingly loyal to the other first-tier circus performers, perhaps even more so than she is to Baron Kelvin. She views all of them as family, calling the other first-tier members brothers and sisters and calling Baron Kelvin "Father."
Drocell Cainz
"Drossel is unaware that he is no longer human, and that his body is being sustained by stuffings of wheat. He is exceptionally loyal to who he thinks is his master, even stumbling with his stuffing falling out to inform him of Grell Sutcliff, Sebastian Michaelis, and Ciel Phantomhive's invasion of the manor. He works hard to fulfill what he thinks is a request to turn anyone into a doll who had come into contact with the Shard of Hope, but this turns out to be him over zealously trying to please his master. The person controlling him, though, seems to think little of him, calling him incompetent and is not sad about his doll dying. Drossel has a tendency to describe people in terms of what materials he would use to make their doll form with, then singing different verses of "London Bridge," sometimes making up his own lyrics to describe said materials. Sebastian later reveals that this song, combined with the music Drossel plays, is used to control the dolls he makes."
Elizabeth Midford
"Elizabeth is a strong-willed and a cheerful girl, with a fondness for cute things. Her hobby, much to Ciel's chagrin, is to make everything and everybody "cute"; this involves everything from decorating the Phantomhive manor with hearts and sparkly bunnies to putting elders in dresses. She usually imposes her sense of fashion and preference upon others and doggedly refuses to take no for an answer. However, on the occasions when she goes too far and upsets someone, she feels horrible and will even cry over her mistake. Her disposition to be delightful, cute, and innocent is said to be influenced by Angelina Durless when the latter taught her that all ladies should act weak and cute in front of their lords and smile often and be surrounded by nice things." Despite that, in recent chapters Elizabeth proved to be determined and capable of standing up for herself.
Finnian
"Like the other Phantomhive servants, he has a great deal of respect, and a bit of fear for Sebastian Michaelis. He is also exceedingly loyal to Ciel, who he views as a savior of sorts. Finnian is a child-like character, prone to bursting into tears whenever he does something wrong. He is exceptionally strong, and has to be very careful when doing work that utilizes his strength, or he will break or damage something. He enjoys his work very much, loves being outside, and works hard to please Sebastian and Ciel. Slightly over a year ago, Ciel picked up Finnian and allowed him to work as a gardener, which he loves doing because he used to not be allowed to go outside in the past. It is for this reason that Finnian is exceptionally loyal to Ciel."
Fred Aberline
"Aberline is notable for being a bit naive, despite being a police officer, which is something Randall has insulted him for. However, he genuinely wants to create a better world, something that others have been shown to find both admirable and idiotic. In the musical, he punishes his back-up officers by hitting them when they do something that annoys him or says his name incorrectly. But gives them treats when they do something right. In alignment with this belief, he is shocked and appalled by Ciel Phantomhive's arrangement with Queen Victoria, although he does admire his wealth and good taste, being notably impressed by Ciel's collection of Pre-Raphaelite artwork, something he is a fan of. He also finds this agreement saddening, as it places such a burden on a child. Randall has been shown to treat him poorly, often insulting and blaming him when investigations do not go quickly. Ciel is also notably rude to him in the anime, forcing Aberline to constantly justify the work he does. Despite this, he cares for Ciel, like he cares for all citizens, and is shown aiding and warning Ciel in cases of danger. After spending time with Aberline, Ciel comes to admire him to a degree, although he later takes it back. Undertaker is notably fond of him, much to Ciel's and Sebastian Michaelis' surprise, calling him "amazing" and saying he is in the wrong profession.
He is described by Ciel as being a man in the light"
Grell Sutcliff
"The real Grell is a cheerful sadist who enjoys flirting and bloody murder, sometimes at the same time. Grell is over-the-top and flamboyant, with a tendency to use female nouns and pronouns when referring to himself. He often puts things in terms of theater, referring to Angelina's death as the falling of curtains on a theater act, and comparing his relationship with Sebastian to the famous play, Romeo and Juliet. Though having an interest in Sebastian, it was stated that Grell's 'true love' is William. Overall, he appears to have a tenuous grasp on sanity at best, switching from childish irritation to murderous rage at the drop of a hat.
Like a typical death god, Grell possesses a scythe; however, he had it transformed into a chainsaw because he considered a regular scythe to be old-fashioned. Grell explains that his scythe is capable of cutting through anything; when it cuts through a person, it divides their soul and their memories, thus resulting in that person's memories playing before their eyes."
Hannah Anafeloz
"Hannah seems to be a introverted and withdrawn person, as demonstrated when she is often seen with her head tilted down as a way of avoiding eye contact with others. Hannah appears to be terrified of her master, Alois Trancy, and is calm and reserved, except for the moments in which he is speaking to her. In these moments, she is brisk, nervous, and will even tremble with fear. However, during her duel with Sebastian Michaelis, Hannah displays great confidence in herself and openly mocks Sebastian for taking the time to fix his clothes. She is extremely loyal to Alois, and is shown willingly being beaten by him and removing almost all of her clothing when he wanted to use her clothes for a costume. Her biggest ambition is to provide Alois with happiness, and thus, she endures abuse from him."
Joker
"Joker initially appears to be easy-going, cheerful, and a clown, as shown when he intentionally drops balls he was juggling on his head for the amusement of the audience. Despite this outer appearance, though, he is very serious and does not easily give in to emotions. Joker displays care for the other members of the circus, but puts pleasing Baron Kelvin, no matter how abhorrent he finds his requests to be, above them. His motive for complying to Baron is that he believes he is protecting his brothers and sisters back at the Renbon Workhouse by doing such.
Lau
"Lau is a generally easy-going, carefree man, with a smile almost constantly plastered on his face. However, he does have some odd tendencies. He keeps a variety of women with him, and even refers to his personal assassin, Ranmao, as his sister, though not related by blood. Despite not being related, though, he has known Ranmao since they were young. He apparently treats these girls well, as he takes them out for treats and special occasions. He also has an odd tendency to say or act like he knows something at times, only then to reveal that he actually doesn't. This trait of his particularly annoys others around him and Sebastian describes this behavior as "typical of a yes-man." However, despite his oddities, he seems completely oblivious to how strange he appears to be to others. Lau has shown that he has a slight propensity toward violence, as he tells Ciel that he would kill Agni if he were Harold West, much to Ciel's surprise since he, on the other hand, finds that a bit excessive. Also, in his zeal to help Sebastian during his magic trick, which involved stabbing a chest that Sebastian was in repeatedly, he does so without thinking of the circumstances, attacking instantly from the top. Lau actually manages to cause Sebastian's pain, which even surprised the latter."
Maylene
"Maylele seems to have a bit of a crush on Sebastian as she frequently blushes and becomes even clumsier when in his presence. She is also exceedingly loyal to Ciel Phantomhive, and does her best to please the both of them. Maylene is exceptionally clumsy, frequently tripping, knocking things over and breaking many of the manor's things as a result. However when she takes on her occupation as a sniper, that is removing her glasses and picking up a gun, Maylene seems to have a complete personality flip, from clumsy and idiotic, to always being on-target, and she becomes nearly emotionless."
Peter
"Peter is prone to violence, angers easily and frequently makes rude, sarcastic remarks. He appears to have no problems with killing other individuals, or even striking or threatening other members of the circus. Despite his tendency to anger easily, he is shown to be capable of making quick decisions, such as when he abandons attacking Finnian to take out a more serious threat. He is also extremely intelligent, as demonstrated by his ability to quickly deduce the reason for the Phantomhive's large gun collection. Peter may bear some ill will toward Doll, as he is only seen insulting her. He may also not be very fond of Snake, as he threatens his life as well. However, he does seem to care deeply about Wendy, as he is almost always by her side, and even leaves a circus performance to sit with her when she's injured. He also seems to respect Jumbo."
Ranmao
"Ranmao is cold, emotionless, and silent, as she is hardly ever seen or heard speaking. However, she appears to be deeply loyal to Lau, and acts only when instructed to by him. It is shown that while not technically related to Lau, though he claims she is his sister, she has known him since they were very young. Lau refers to her as his "cat." Otherwise, she is seen usually standing or sitting between his arms, and rarely moves or speaks of her own accord. She is shown to be a bit of a flirt, attempting to use her sexuality to attract Sebastian's attention, upon Lau's orders, and once flirting with an important guest at one of Ciel's parties. Lau explains her flirtatious behavior as saying that she is a "pampered child." In some instances she even seems to flirt with Ciel, but more or less seems to be just teasing him."
Ronald Knox
"Ronald appears to be a rather laid back, easy-going Shinigami, who apparently has problems with arriving on time. He often seeks to accomplish his duties as swiftly as possible, as shown when he says he has never been one for overtime, and when he expresses his envy toward William T. Spears and Grell Sutcliff, claiming that they have gotten 'easier' jobs to complete. Despite his lackadaisical attitude, Ronald is willing to work hard, having previously declared that he will work to his best potential. Moreover, Ronald seems interested in partying, as he shares with William that he would like to finish a job quickly because he has a party to attend to afterward. He also comes across as a ladies man, commenting that he has gotten his Death Scythe legally modified by flirting with the receptionist; and offering to treat Maylene to a drink upon their first encounter."
Sebastian Michaelis
"Sebastian is a dutiful and dedicated butler to Ciel Phantomhive. He follows each order faithfully, while always ensuring that the Phantomhive house runs smoothly. However, whenever Sebastian sees a cat, he ignores whatever Ciel says to him. As such, he is noticeably annoyed whenever they end up behind schedule. The way he responds to Ciel's demands is quite notable, as the servants are pleased when they can successfully imitate the way he says "Yes, my lord" to Ciel. Despite his ability to appear like a perfectly normal human, especially one who is able to smile, be cheerful, and be understanding, Sebastian is, in actuality, quite heartless, sadistic, and malicious. This comes out when he attacks others on Ciel's orders, such as when he kicked Grell Sutcliff's face because it was the thing that Grell wanted the least damage to. It is also shown with his cruel sarcasm and his inability to see good in much of anyone. At times, Sebastian can be indifferent and deliberately delays Ciel's wellbeing, as he frequently teases him and has put his life in mild danger for his own amusement. Once, he responded to Ciel's kidnapping as "terrible" but only because the tea he prepared would go to waste. He also calls Ciel a "brat" who treats his workers rudely. However, despite all the troubles he goes through on a daily basis, he has said that he doesn't think it's such a bad way of living."
Snake
"Snake is quiet, and rarely speaks, but when he does, it's usually to relay information from one of his snakes. Joker tells Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michaelis that "Snake an' his friends're still shy" and warns them to be careful of "their poison." However, he seems to have a bit of a playful side, as he flirts with Dagger through one of his snakes. He seems to care enough about the other first-tier members to provide information and warnings, as shown when he apologizes to Doll for allowing his snakes to roam loose. As well, he attempts to get revenge on Ciel for their "disappearances". However, he has delayed in telling the others about Ciel's and Sebastian's invasion of their tents for an unknown reason, and he is not shown referring to the other first-tier members as brothers or sisters, as they do. He also does not accompany them on their missions, and doesn't seem to be fully informed as to what they're doing when they're gone. Furthermore, he seems to dislike being in positions of authority, as when the second-tier members question where the other first-tier members are at, he relays only small bits of information before leaving the decisions to the others."
Soma Asman Kadar or Prince Soma
"Soma is a self-absorbed, relatively naive, childish young adult. He is quick to blame other people for his problems, such as blaming Lord Harold West for Meena's "kidnapping." While he is able to take note of others' emotional states, such as noticing when Agni seemed to be bothered by something, he seems to be unwilling or afraid of bringing it up. He cares deeply for Agni, as he views him as the one person who has never left his side, even when not by him. He also cares about impressing Ciel Phantomhive and convincing him to like him, as he refers to them as "best friends" and is overjoyed when Ciel even implies they are friends. However, he seems to be frightened of Sebastian Michaelis, as he is shown hiding behind Ciel when speaking to Sebastian and cowering in fear when Sebastian comes close. In general, though, he dislikes being alone and actively tries to get others' attention and company. Later, he decides to work hard to earn things of his own and become a good man. With this new attitude, he tries very hard to be of use to his new English friends and is pleased whenever he learns he can help with a task."
Undertaker
"Known only by his profession, Undertaker is a mysterious man whose scarred face is never fully visible beneath his long hair and crooked top hat. He tends to punctuate his words with sweeping gestures and creepy giggles and seems to spend a good deal of time inside of coffins. Undertaker seems to take joy in frightening others, as he intentionally acts creepy to provoke a reaction. He appears to enjoy both his job as a funeral director and as an informant to the Phantomhive family, as he has worked with them since before Vincent Phantomhive's time. He has great connections with the underworld, as victims of murder from the underworld often show up at his place of business. It is these connections that allow him to be a useful informant to the Phantomhives. However, he does not exchange his services for "the queen's money," as he seems to dislike Queen Victoria. Instead, those who want information from him are expected to amuse him in some way. Undertaker frequently refers to the deceased as his "guests." It is his hobby to remove organs from his "guests" for research. When living people come to visit him, he frequently asks if they came to see what it feels like to sleep in a coffin."
Wendy
"She initially seems soft-spoken, and usually defers to Peter to do most of the talking. However, when she does speak, she presents herself in a mature manner, such as when she comforts Beast. Like the other first-tier circus members, she seems very concerned with completing the tasks set out to them by Baron Kelvin, and seems to have no qualms about kidnapping or murdering individuals while accomplishing these tasks. She cares deeply about the other first-tier circus members, perhaps more than she cares about Baron Kelvin, and seems to be most attached to Peter, as she is almost always in his presence."
William T. Spears
"William is emotionless and generally calm. In regards to his job, he is strict, follows the rules precisely, and seems extremely devoted. He does not take kindly to individuals who cause problems or create more work for him, particularly if it forces him to apologize for their actions. Nonetheless, he seems to share Ronald's distaste for overtime work. He has no qualms with inflicting minor injury on others, as shown when he jumps off a roof to land on Grell Sutcliff's head and when he uses his death scythe to attack Sebastian on a few occasions. He finds demons to be disgusting creatures, and is seen calling Sebastian Michaelis a variety of names. However, it is implied that he finds other demons to be even more horrible than Sebastian. In the anime, though, he is much more willing to work with Sebastian, as he aids him on a number of occasions."
