Grindhouse. Ugh. If I turn off my brain, it's full of fantastical awesome. When I turn it back on, I see Cherry Darling displaying her 'talents' and a pretty girl's severed leg and Kurt Russell killing women because... they... because they're WOMEN.
Ugh.
And, yeah, Kevin Smith is a bit failtastic when you think about it, but Dogma was pretty good. Except for the "making a baby will give your life meaning" thing. And trying to make "Jussy" fit the "theme" or whatever...
When Hollywood tries to make a movie with a lot of female characters, they end up with Sex and the City, which is getting slammed by every dude on the fucking planet. But they ladies of SatC are still obsessed with dudes and my non-feminist friends don't understand why I will NEVER bother watching it.
If you want a movie about women, it HAS to be indie. Hollywood won't gamble their money on a chick flick that isn't about schmoopsy feelings about boys, or realizing that you're an ugly duckling who can get Prince Charming after all, or pretending to be about empowerment when it's really about showing ladies that they can be strong AND show plenty of T&A at the same time.
