[Red Mage wakes up in an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar room and immediately notices that there is something very wrong here. He'd become accustomed in recent times to awakening to the sound of explosions, stabbing, and screaming in various combinations. This is clearly not the inn he bedded down in with the Light Warriors the previous night. It's an obvious conclusion to draw. For one, the others aren't there. And two, the room isn't on fire.]
Hmm... I wonder if I'm still dreaming. Perhaps this is a sidequest in which I am meant to face my inner demons in the dream world, but all of the level progress carries over due to the lesson learned from overcoming a personal obstacle!
[Glancing around the room quickly, he notices that his hat is not where he'd hung it the night before, and in fact he isn't wearing his normal clothing at all. He also feels strangely devoid of any sort of magical power.]
And I am meant to surmount this challenge sans the aid of any of my normal equipment or magical talents! Surely the bonus experience awards will be substantial upon my inevitable victory!
[Later on, Red Mage can be found wandering around the streets of Mayfield taking in the sights. He's dressed in a sharp looking black suit with a matching hat, gloves, and a pair of sunglasses. Because clearly the fanciest looking clothing in the closet must give the largest stat bonuses, and his Charisma score is in dire need of boosting.]
Strange... typically there would have been a randomized monster encounter by this point, or at the very least a cryptic message from an inscrutable dream avatar. How am I to know what quest to complete? Or perhaps I've been shifted into an entirely different plane of existence. That would explain why my subconscious mind is able to conjure images of things I've never seen before.
[He more or less continues to muse out loud to himself in this fashion as he walks around taking everything in. There's no particular sense of urgency or panic here - it's really just a mix of curiosity and very mild impatience that a goal has not immediately presented itself.]
