Mojo beaver: the best beaver figurine at the market?

Dec 08, 2011 12:18

James Connolly was very kind to send me three Mojo Fun figures I like the most. Here are they:

You may say I’m repeating myself, but once again I dare to say that Mojo beaver is the best beaver figurine available at the market today.
Here is it in my European display (this pic looks like the photographer was sitting in ambush in shrubbery near water and snapshot the beaver coming out of a pond):

To back my conclusion with arguments I’ll try to make a consise review of beaver figurines by major brands.

I must admit that I’ve been judging by photos and feedback form other collectors, ‘cause the only beavers I held in my hands are the retired Schleich model and my Mojo newcomer.

Mojo Fun 2011 beaver
Pros:
+ Good scale
+ Good paintwork
+ Pose
+ Matt finish
Contras:
- Painting of the teeth

Scale is a real advantage of Mojo beaver in my eyes - all other beaver figures are too large for my display :) Look at him next to Schleich lynx, for example:

Papo 2010 beaver

Pros:
+ Interesting pose
Cons:
- Mediocre paintwork
- Large size

CollectA 2010 beaver

Pros:
+ Size
Cons:
- Strange pose
- Strange paws :)

Wild Safari Forest Beaver

Pros:
+ That twig in the mouth adds “zest” to this figure
Cons:
- Large size (it’s not as large as Papo, but still I’d prefer a smaller figure)
- Glossy finish?

Schleich beaver (retired, but present in many collections)

Pros:
+ Good old Schleich style (not everyone will take it as advantage, but there are quite many collectors who will)
Cons:
- Large size
- Lack of details

comparison, mojo
