As all the ardent collectors must have already seen, Schleich has updated their site with lots of new information - that's cool.
And it's great that they've added scientific names to their figures.
But what is strange - they
wrote that their Gazelle is Gazella cuvieri (Cuvier's Gazelle), and not Thomson's Gazelle as we all think it to be.
I think it's a mistake, cause Cuvier's Gazelle don't live in savannah - they live in Northern Africa.
There were also surprises for me regarding Schleich tree species.
It turns out that they position their beech and fir trees as American and not European species - in spite of the fact that Schleich is a German company and it is their German corporate site - www.schleich-s.de!
They wrote that the
beech tree is Fagus grandifolia which is for American Beech native to eastern North America.
And
Schleich fir tree is specified to be Abies magnifica - i.e. Red Fir or Silvertip fir native to the mountains of southwest Oregon and California.
It's obvious then that the North American market grosses the biggest profit for Schleich if they position such widespread in Europe tree species to be American ones.
