An update on my life this year so far...

So this year, as expected, is ridiculously busy! I’m taking 19 credits (I still don’t know what I was thinking), although as hard as some of the classes are going to be, I actually like most of them, overall at least. Organic chem. is hard but interesting and I like the prof. Physics…ok I’m not going to lie…I hate it, but I’ve never been a huge fan of it…and the lab for it is obnoxious and just pisses me off, but oh well. Animal products, which is one of my major’s requirements, is actually turning out to be a lot harder than I thought it would be, but it’s also turning out to be more informative and interesting than I thought, so it’s all good. My neuropsychology class is awesome…I love it to death, although it is not going to be as easy a 4.0 as I thought, but that’s ok. I’m also doing an honors option for it…I’m going to write a 25 page comparative analysis of the chimpanzee and human brains! Ok, so to most of you that may sound nuts, but I’m really excited about it. My Language class is pretty cool too, though there is a lot of tedious memorization. I’m also doing an honors option in that…a paper on something about chimpanzees and language…what can I say, I love chimps  My Self Defense class is great! The teacher was trained by masters in all sorts of martial arts and street fighting, and he’s awesome. He works us hard though. Last week he made us do so many walking squats, it hurt like hell to even move my legs, let alone walk, sit or stand, and forget about trying to sit on a toilet, hehe…that was always painful. But when he’s not making us hurt, he really teaches us how to fight in a very practical sense, and we have a lot of fun “grappling” in the class. The second half of the semester is going to be striking and boxing…I can’t wait! Ok, so that’s more than enough about my classes…

When I’m not in class, I can probably be found at a club meeting. Pre-vet club sounds like it’s going to be good this year since we have new and seemingly better officers. We’re also hosting the “National Pre-Vet Med association Symposium” here this year, and that’s a big deal. Pre-vet students from colleges all over the country will come to go to seminars and labs and social activities…it should be fun. Block and Bridle club should also be good this year. I’m going with some of the people in it to the B&B National Convention in Ohio where we’re going to learn about Quarter horses. I’m pretty excited about that too. I’m secretary of the Self Defense club this year, and we have some cool plans, and I’m hoping they’ll happen, but we’re still a small and developing club so it makes it hard to make too much happen sometimes.

So then there’s the “MST3KHSPCM” club…ok so it stands for “Mystery Science Theater 3000 Historical Society for the Preservation of Cheesy Movies.” *Takes deep breath* So it all started b/c my friend Steve is a huge fan of MST3K (it’s the show where the guy and the robots sit at the bottom of the screen trashing really bad…or “cheesy”… movies), and he’s gotten me into it, and so we started a club…We’re basically going to rent out lecture halls on campus every few weeks and just see how many people we can get in them to be dorks with us and watch and laugh over MST3K movies….I’ll let you all know how it goes in the next update…

I also went to a meeting of the “Free Thinker’s Society,” more b/c that same friend Steve dragged me there with him, but it actually turned out to be really interesting. We basically just sat there for a while and had discussions about science versus religion and morality, spirituality, and other controversial and hard to understand philosophical topics…I got quite a bit out of it, it was nice and definitely thought-provoking.

So when I’m not in classes or at club meetings, I might be found still working on that freaking animal nutrition paper. That sounds very negative, and really, I loved the research project, and love the topic, but now I’m at the editing/ further analyzing the results stage, and it’s just tedious. The prof still wants to try to get it published…it’s taking forever though, and I’m not so convinced it’s going to happen, though it would be soo amazingly awesome if it did.

When I’m not doing any of that, I might be doing hw or studying, or I might be with friends. We’ve had some interesting times that’s for sure…movies, just hanging around in each others’ rooms, crashing on my friend’s couch, driving around looking for food places open in the middle of the night, campus events, going to dance clubs to find nobody there (does that happen in NY!!?? I was so confused…), playing pool (side story: one night a few friends of mine were playing and some guy who had been playing before us and was really good asked to play winner…Steve and I won so we had to play him…and we beat him…it was great!), and all sorts of other random things…it’s been fun, and we have tons of plans for the year, so I’m looking ahead expecting plenty of good times 

Our football team is doing really well this year too. We’re 4-0, including a win against Notre Dame and a 61-14 win against Illinois. Next weekend is the MSU vs. UofM game, and since they’re our big rivals who always beat us (but who we came very close to beating last year) everyone here is pumped about it. It’s going to be a home game so I’ll be there, along with 80,000 other screaming (and many drunken I’m sure) people….it’s going to be nuts and I can’t wait.

On the not-so-great end of things, I was sick for almost two weeks with severe headaches, achy ness, and fevers. That was fun. But now I feel better, though my allergies have decided to surface…how nice of them ha?

Ok so that’s a lot of writing for me and reading for you, so I think I’ll leave it at that. I think that covers pretty much everything anyway. I hope everyone reading this is doing well :) TTYL all
