Sample journal entry: (First person, 200+ words)

Holyhead isn’t playing as well as usual this season- they might be more open to price negotiation, but I don’t know if they’d be open to selling. They’ve traditionally been owned and coached by women, and I don’t know a lot of female coaches I’d want to put in right now (important to keep their respect). Still- will keep an eye on them.

The ranks continue to fill quickly; just about worthy of the name of army now. I’ve learned a great deal about negotiating with giants over the past few months (namely that it is extremely difficult, and not like dealing with most creatures of near-human intelligence at all- they respond best to shows of force, which I can certainly provide). The rush of new recruits from Hogwarts is promising indeed; Rabbit’s brought in his entire year at Slytherin, I think. He tells me that the Snape boy is good with potions; perhaps he could brew something new or something better for Bella- as long as I don’t tell her where it comes from. He seems to be much in the Dark Lord’s favor at the moment, though I’m not sure why- none’s proven to be more loyal than she.

Ball at Zabini’s next weekend. I hope Lucius will come; it has the potential to be incredibly dull otherwise, and just when things have been so lively. I wonder what it would take to bribe him.

Sample RP: (Third person, 200+ words)

Rodolphus leaned back into his seat at the Exmoor stadium, exhaling softly. He wasn’t particularly thrilled with what he was seeing on the field; he hadn’t been particularly thrilled with anything he’d seen all season, certainly not enough to part with the sums of money required to purchase any of these teams. But it allowed him to spend many a comfortable afternoon in a private box, half in sun and half in shadow; and there to entertain friends and guests. He’d succeeded in making many a deal here, even if he’d not yet succeeded in buying a Quidditch team.

Plenty of time for that. Plenty of time for all things. And the tickets he’d secured to the European finals would be far more valuable than the Galleons they’d cost him, when the time came. A favor here, a word dropped in the right ear there, and Rodolphus would have access to the right people. It was a bit of a farce, really; Lucius could have made the right introductions just by making a few well-placed donations, but Rodolphus enjoyed the extra layers of diplomacy.

He watched the match with vague disinterest, thinking ahead, composing his report to the Dark Lord in his head. Voldemort would be pleased at the giants’ interest. They were stupid and belligerent, but it only took one or two to make an impression. Bellatrix would be pleased as well. It was always better when Bellatrix was pleased.

Perhaps that young man with the fair hair would be willing to chat after the meeting; the one who looked so like Lucius when the light was right.
