My A2A Theories: Let me Shows You Them

May 12, 2010 10:11

Alright, we're less than two weeks away from the finale of Ashes to Ashes, which officially wraps up what can lovingly be termed the "Gene-verse" saga started way back when John Simm got hit by a car. Like most people, I have theories. Also like most people, I have no fucking clue if I'm right. For shits and giggles, I'm compiling my theories in ( Read more... )

ashes to ashes, gene hunt is a bad ass (shut yo mouf!), writing, total shite, ramblin'

Ha, this made me laugh. And also, there's a lot of sense in here. Good theory. Maybe Alex's 'Bowieflash' moment is still to come? Maybe 'what she wants' is just a bit of a snog from Gene and thus it is germane to the plot after all... ;)

LOL. No, I think Alex has already had her Bowieflash, just without a Bowie.

Not that snogging Gene Hunt would be a bad thing. For ANYONE, tbh.

You are freaking fabulous. Every single bit of this Theorizing is spot-on (and yes, I agree with all of it) and hysterical. It's some excellent meta, and I wish I could pick it apart and theorize with you, but that would basically consist of me pointing and going "YES, THAT".

Okay, I lied, I do have specific comments for this bit:

Keats is death personified. He's neutral. Death comes for the rich and the poor. He has no side. He just IS. Keats just wants everyone to move on, to die. If you die in the fake!world, you move onto the next world. He wants to bring death.YES YES YES. I really quite like our new Angel of Death, and he's not "evil". He's not anything - he's neutral. If it's your time, it's your time. Louise's time was up, and she knew it, so she wasn't as afraid. Viv didn't want to die, confessed to Gene that he was scared, so it was frightening for him. And the whistling/ignoring the screaming? I have this theory that Jim's been doing his job a little too long. I don't think he's been human for a long time, so it kind of ( ... )

People interpreting Keats as evil is one of my biggest pet peeves. He's emotionally detached and highly manipulated. That's not evil, it's just neutral.

I LIKE your idea that Keats at one time may have been human. Hm, it makes you think that all of the holy bureaucracy might have, at one time, been in the masses. And yes, Keats has been doing his job for a very long time, and has forgotten a lot of things. He's forgotten being human, even.

And I DO so love him as a character. I fell for him hard in episode 1. His quirky little interactions with everyone and then BOOM he turns on Gene. He is SUCH a bureaucrat. All boxes must be ticked, all forms filed out, all people moved on. No emotions, no feelings. Order must be restored.

I KNOW RIGHT?

I just really hate that kneejerk reaction that anyone who isn't one of our heroes is ZOMGEVIL. I remember all the theorizing that went on about Caroline Price and Evan White, how they were "obviously" bad people who were going to be to blame for the car explosion. And look at what happened - Caroline was Tim's victim and Evan took care of ickle!Alex. Same thing with Supermack - although I admit to a bad case of "of course he's evil, he's Lewis Prothero!" when it comes to him.

I just think it's so much less interesting if Keats isn't every bit as multifaceted as Gene and Alex and the rest.

And yes, Keats has been doing his job for a very long time, and has forgotten a lot of things. He's forgotten being human, even. And how. Though he tries - he's got an office, and watches the footie, and talks music with Alex - but when it comes down to the big things, his job, he' ( ... )

Did you know that people still hate Evan? It's bizarre!

Everything you said about Keats is spot on and fabulous. I also sort of wish he was in LOM even.

I do like your theories - of course I'm one of those sappy ridiculous GALEX fangirls who wants Gene and Alex to be together . . . but hey I guess we wont be getting that ending . . . :(

I do also kind of get the idea that Alex is dead.

I also really like your "Keats is Death" thing. He's a perfect grim reaper (makes me think of Bill & Ted: "Don't Fear the Reaper, Dude!" although maybe I'm showing my age there . . . )

Although if Keats IS death he has already lost the souls of Shaz and Ray hasn't he?

Don't feel bad. I'm fairly sure that it'll be made very clear that Alex and Gene care for each other very deeply indeed. And I know it's sad that they won't be together, but I think it's better for each of them anyway. What we want and what we need aren't always the same thing, right?

And as for your last point, Gene currently has possession of Shaz and Ray's souls, but if Alex can convince him to let them go, I think they go to Keats and on and out to the stars (the final death).

I am completely spoiled, but since I only wanted to touch on the last two previews I have not included my thoughts on Nelson as it were. I do think he has a part, and I might discuss it briefly following episode 7.

You've got to love a show where the main character basically tells you that you need to be DVRing it because all of this is very important! :P
