So, this was the plan: Get up early on Saturday and clean my room and go to my cousin’s grad party with Ray. Let Ray meet the family and then we take off to Chicago for the Taste, which I had never been to. Park at his house and take the Blue line over to the Taste and have fun, then go to the hotel where our friend Irena is having her 21st birthday party. Then, depending on how trashed either (or both of us) were, we would ether drive back to Dekalb or stay the night at the hotel with everyone.
~Oh, wishful thinking~
Here’s what happened: My alarm clock surely did not go off. I woke up late and didn’t get to clean my room. Took a shower and put on my clothes on and rush out, only to come back because the shirt Ray was wearing made me think of a huge mustard bottle. (sorry, he’s meeting my family for the first time, I needed him to look nice, lol) So, we go to my Aunts house, and things go great. We hang out and have a great time then left for Chicago. Most of the way there the ride is smooth, then the dreaded traffic hits! We sat in traffic FOREVER! We finally get to his house and his mother ( who is wonderful and I just met for the first time) gives me a HUGE hug and feels the need to show me EVERY SINGLE picture in her house. Hehe, it was funny. I just stood there and smiled and nodded like a good girl does. Then by the time we got to the jewl to buy the tickets, we realized that if we even attempt to get down to the Taste, that It would be a total waste because everything would be closed by the time we got there. So I was kinda bummed so he took me to the “Real Taste of Chicago”. He to all his favorite places. First, we got a Jew-Town polish, which was good. And I was so excited to find out that they actually make pineapple crush. It was awesome. Then he took me to Little Italy and got me some authentic (and quite rockin) Italian ice. It was so yummy. Then he showed me some other places and took me down town and showed me around. It was all out a great time….
Till I started to feel ill…
The Jew-town polish wasn’t cooked right (he said) and made me very very sick. Like puking in the random street trash can, sick.
Once all that was over we tried to get a hold of Sade and Irina, but that never happened. They were all too wasted to even notice the phone so we decided to call it a night.
I was bummed still, though, because I wanted to spend more time there. So he suggested that we go back tomorrow ( Sunday) to the Taste and Pride. But it was pointless to drive the 70 miles back to Dekalb just to sleep and come back the same 70 miles in less than 12 hours. So I had the brilliant idea to crash at my house (only 20 miles instead of 70). So I called my mom to ask and make sure it was ok. She said fine but I gotta be quiet and be out early because of dad.
Plan: go home, sleep, wake up, do laundry, shower make a nice breakfast, and bolt by like 9:00 AM
~Oh, wishful thinking~ haha
What really happened: quarter to 6 comes around and there’s furious pounding on the door followed by a slew of curse words and stomping. Seconds later there’s a text message from my mom saying that we need to leave…now. Lol well, I still hadn’t showered or done laundry so my mom devises this plan to sneak Ray outta the house and let him go to Mc donalds and wait while I shower real quick and she does laundry for me. Yeah… crazy. So we waited around town till we had to leave for the train.
Got to the city alright, a little late, but it happens. Then we got on the red line and attempted to get down to the parade but the trains were PACKED and kept having to stop because of trains running off schedule. We met awesome people along the way. we finally got there, ran into my friend ruthie, saw chika ( <3) and hung around for a long day. By the end of that whole thing I was exhausted. My reet hurt and I wanted to lay down. So we decided to make the treacherous way back.
We never made it to taste. Lol
The ride back was terrible because the trains were late then the metra had a whiney snot nose brat child that I absolutely wanted to slaughter , jumping on the seats and yelling and banging on the windows and running all over the train. And where were the parents… ? Watching him and laughing! Bastards! Grr
But all in all it was an awesome weekend. I had so much fun. Pics are on facebook =)
This weekend should be fun too =)
Fireworks will be different this year for me. hopefully I still like them. We’ll see.
