nose deep and sinking fast on LJ

I need basic-basic LJ for dummies. I do not know how to bookmark or tag and I cannot reliably find the manga_clubhouse page. not helped that I am just not happy in other areas of  my life, I suspect...living with extended family is much more difficult than I had really assumed it would be, and I was previously aware that this would not be easy. LJ's Icon policy is basically anything that is maximum 100X100 pixels. You can basically use any image file type (.gif, .jpg, .png, etc.). Most of mine are .png because you get better graphics quality at that small size that way, but I won't bog you down with technical details of making an Icon. Traditionally and as a courtesy, you can take icons from other LJ users, but sometimes they want to be credited or they simply don't want to share their icons, so know what you are allowed to take and what you are not allowed to take. You can find whole communities devoted to sharing free icons right here on LJ, and many fan communities have posters who will submit entries with icons to share with others. For the sake of my tutorial here, right click on this image and save it to your harddrive (remember where you put it because you are going to need it again in a second):

It's the userpic for manga_clubhouse.

Next, go to this page. Don't worry about any of the other options on the page right now. On the left side is an option to "Upload from File." Click on Browse and find where you just put the Yoruichi icon above. Select a "keyword" for it. This is what the icon will be called (I call it "yoruichi") in drop-down menus that you can use to select it from. The "comment" box is optional, but this is where you would put things like credits for borrowed icons from other users who want to be credited for icon use.

Go ahead and copy/paste this into the comment window (remove the asterisks):

Taken from <*lj user="manga_clubhouse"*>

That's a little lesson in html for you, but unless you want to know how to use html on LJ, I'll stop there.

As this will be your first and only (for now) icon, it will automatically be your default one. Click on "Proceed" to upload the icon and finish. You can now use this icon in your entries. If you'd like some other cool icons let me know what you'd like to find. I can hunt some down for you if I know what kind of stuff you'd like to have.
