Somehow, it sounds tiring just saying it. The part-time job has required me to attend several library conventions in North Texas. Fortunately, Beth has this same task, which makes it a little more fun. Last Thursday evening, we had to pick up a graphic artist who was guesting at the Ft. Worth convention this past Friday. His flight didn't arrive until 8:15 p.m., and what's more he had not eaten anything since lunch. Apparently, American Airlines doesn't serve meals on cross-country flights, so we drove him to his hotel in Grapevine and also to a Mexican restaurant nearby. He treated Beth and I to sopapillas since we had already eaten earlier. We didn't arrive home until about 10:30 that night.
Friday comes, and we have to be in Ft. Worth by 7:30 a.m., so it's up before the sun and driving out of Denton at 6:30 a.m. Such fun stuff...I feel so lousy that early in the morning. But we got there on time and helped Lisa (boss lady) set up the four tables with stuff from, LLIBS, or Library Integrated Solutions (I'm a data specialist there), and also for Children's Plus, a company dealing in selling the latest book titles to public and school libraries. I manned the Children's Plus area while Beth took care of the LLIBS table. At around 9:30, I went to pick up the guest artist from Grapevine, which was also such fun with the traffic. But I got him to the convention on time, and just in time for lunch, really. For the rest of the convention, it was all about handing out Children's Plus's latest graphic novel list as well as receiving customer information from those who wanted to fill out the surveys. Fortunately, the convention was finished before 3:00 p.m., and we were out of there at about 3:30. Beth and I then took the guest artist to an early dinner at a rather nice Mexican restaurant before dropping him off at the airport. The day was long, tiring but a little fun, too.
Tomorrow, we have to be in Longview by 10:00 a.m., which means leaving Denton at 7. There's not as much stuff to set up for this convention as it is smaller than the last one. It should be less busy, according to Lisa, although Beth and I "must" sell the books we are bringing along. We'll see how the librarians take to them.
This Friday, there is another larger convention in Dallas which we have to be there to set up at 7:00 a.m. I just love greeting the day before the sun. Oh, well, it's a living and it helps with the bills. And the good news is that after this convention, there isn't another one until mid-September. Better news is that Jim and I have a date for Saturday and I have a friend from Austin (returning from Japan, mind you) coming in on Sunday for a visit. So this weekend shall be quite busy but still fun.
Overall, that's been my life recently. Ja ne.
