Plans and Near Mishaps

Just 2 days til my brother arrives.

It's not so hot today. Only 85 with humidity around 99%, I estimate. Sitting in the shade, I'm only sweating a lot, not profusely.

I just drew a composition of triangles with stripes that I'm going to title "summer sails" i think.

I've been thinking about making prints when I get back to MD. Gocco prints.

I've also been thinking about a few other things I have on my plate. All good things, but things that need my time and attention. A couple of those things involve drawing stuff. I'm not sure I'll ever have the guts to call myself an illustrator, but I'd almost call 2 of my tasks creating illustrations. For one of those I have to draw an octopus and other sea creatures. But not just a cute little octopus character that I can add a little speech bubble that says, "hi" to. It can be stylized, but needs to be a semi-relistic drawing of an octopus.

Have you ever tried to get an octopus to stand still in an attractive position? Neither have I. I'm relying on photos other people have taken, which is a little tricky.

Another task is to design a simple website. It's been looming over my head for months, and I had grand plans that I never put into action. I just got word that I should just do something simple to get the site up and running. Simple is good, but you know, I still have to *do* it, and that seems to be my biggest challenge in this hot, soupy tropical wonderland.

jesnie is going to be here so soon! Almost 1 week from today. And then we'll be flying over to Manila so soon too.

Yesterday I finally booked my ticket. I forgot to do that before. My mind was so set and excited about the thought, "I'm going to Manila!" that I never technically got my ticket. Only yesterday did the suspicion of that fact resurface, and so exactly 2 weeks before the departure I sat down to secure my itinerary.

I had a brief meltdown when I searched for the ticket under the "reward travel" option (i wanted to use frequent flyer miles), and my intended flight didn't show up as an option at all. The only one that was popping up would have me arrive a full day later than was planned, with two 9 hour layover built in. Ugh. After a half an hour of searching in different ways and for different options, out of frustration and annoyance, I searched for my original, straightforward itinerary, and like magic, it showed up. In the end, my brief emotional turmoil was completely unnecessary, and I felt a little sheepish as I went through with the booking.

At least my plans, and my friends' plans don't have to be adjusted in any way, and I don't have to have a stomach tied up in knots about it.
