Last night at 1:09am I realized I hadn't written a post all day, and had messed up my goal of writing a post a day only 9 days in. I thought about cheating again, but I already did that once so decided against it. It was too much pressure anyway.
I had a rather lovely day, even though I woke up feeling rather grumpy, and still feel a little grumpy about some things.
I went to Trader Joe's and stocked up on some basics. I'd gone a few times earlier in the week and the shelves kept getting emptier and emptier. Apparently their delivery truck couldn't get through because of a closure on I-5 in Washington somewhere. Weird. But today they had food again so I got some good stuff, like spinach dip.
I had some smoked salmon with goat cheese for lunch, and decided to go for a long walk. I was feeling grumpy and antsy so I thought moving around would be good for me. I wanted to see the river, so I headed down there. I didn't go to the River Walk, but instead headed across the Burnside Bridge where I watched the water and some very large hunks of wood flow under the bridge. The whole time I've been here I believed that the water flowed South and was more than a little amused to see that it was definitely flowing North.
I remembered a pretty cool cafe, "Airplay" on the other side of the bridge. As I approached I thought to myself, "it would be funny if you walked all this way to find they are closed." And then I saw that they were closed, and I didn't think it was all that funny. Then I remembered another cafe a few blocks down that I'd seen and had wanted to try out. Grendel's Cafe was lovely. I got a really good americano for the best price so far in this city, sat on a comfy couch, and read the latest thing my mom sent me in good light. I hung out there for an hour or so til they closed, then headed back over the bridge.
I'm not sure why, but I really wanted to see something new and beautiful, so I veered into Powell's as I passed by. I flipped through some photography books. I sat there and browsed through a National Geographic photo book on love and looked at famous wrinkly faces in Wisdom. Over the loud speaker I heard an announcement that a talk was starting in 15 minutes by the girl who put together the Handmade Nation book and documentary. Sounded like a good thing to check out, so I moved over there when I heard the talk start. I even got a seat close to the front. It was an interesting and inspiring talk, I must say.
After the talk they were printing save the date cards with a little gocco printer (!) for the viewing of the documentary that will be shown in April at the Museum of Contemporary Craft. I got to print my own and chose a green card on which to print the red inked design.
Then I walked home and made one of my epically good sandwiches and ate a cookie. Now I think I might upload some photos if that wants to happen.
