Moving Tomorrow

Jul 21, 2008 22:42

So I'm moving tomorrow. To Portland. It's pretty far away.

I managed to get all my stuff into 3 bags.

Well, I suppose I should alter that sentence to state "all the stuff I decided to take" because really my room doesn't look that different now that 3 bags are full o' stuff and in the car. I could have taken a lot more, but it was just such a pain to decide what to take and what to leave. I took what I felt I'd really need in the next few months, then if I want more, I can either come back and get it, or people can bring it out to me when they visit, or it can be shipped.

Some stuff is relatively easy like clothes. Other stuff is fiddly like finding all the particular pieces of jewelry that I wanted that were scattered all over the house. I'm not a very organized person day to day.

What I took:
A lot of clothes (really a lot)
A pile of shoes (a real pile!)
5 coats/jackets
markers/pens
a few sketch books
box o' tools
2 hard drives (could have consolidated to 1 but didn't want to take the time to transfer stuff off my old one to my computer then onto the new bigger one)
wacom tablet
laptop (which I'm currently using but will be the last thing packed)
3 books about Portland
Bedding (including a down blanket, sheets, pillow)
Down throw for my as yet invisible couch
2 towels
Big camera and case (sadly my small camera has mysteriously disappeared)

I guess that's about it. There's a lot of my stuff still left here at home, but that'll just have to be dealt with later.

It still doesn't seem totally real to me that I'm leaving tomorrow morning. I have to get up by about 5:30 so that I have plenty of time and don't have to feel rushed.

I feel like this post should be more meaningful or full of feeling and reflection, but it's just not here right now. I had a pretty fun going away party Saturday night. I should write about that sometime because it involved Mexican food and drink, Italian dessert, absinthe, a straight jacket, and controversy. It was a good send off.

Ok, that's it for now. Next time I write, I'll be in Portland!
