Ice Cream and Other Tasty Junk

I've been eating crap lately. Partially out of laziness, partially out of lack of imagination, partially in celebration.

I've been eating a lot of toast with cheese or almond butter or honey or jam. I found this new healthy bread that's made with sprouted grain and no flour, and I'm kind of addicted to it.

The celebrations have been the real culprit: birthdays, out of town guests, the 4th of July, etc. We've had lots of chocolate, ice cream, pies and cake in the house. Waffles and bacon for breakfast, left over hamburgers for lunch and/or dinner. Crabs and beer and pina coladas on the 4th; more crabs on the 5th and 6th in the form of crab cakes and dip. I feel like every day has been an indulgence, and now I'm out of reasons to indulge, but I'm still surrounded by delicious junk food.

When I stopped at 7-11 the other night to get a bunch of ice for the 4th, my cousin was with me and asked if I could loan her money so she could get a pint of Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough ice cream. I couldn't refuse, but then she left 2 days later and never touched the ice cream.

Over the past few days I've been eating it, and tonight I finished the last of it. I was surprised how much I liked it. It's one of those flavors of ice cream that it never would occur to me to buy, but once I had it, I enjoyed every bite; perhaps a bit too much.

I also found it very satisfying to eat ice cream right from the pint container. I've seen others do this on tv, etc., but again, something that had never occurred to me before. It was like my own little world of ice cream that I could explore at my leisure. It was fun to discover the chunks of cookie dough hiding in the innocuous vanilla ice cream. Each one was a surprise and a treat.

My goal for tomorrow is to use the zucchini, mushrooms and red peppers I have to make a lasagna. There are a lot of steps in that dish, but I already cut up the veggies, and frankly, I need some real food.

junk, food
