VERMONT LEAF PEEEEEPINGGG. i love that it makes me feel dirty. Leaf peepers....anyways last weekend i went on a road trip to vermont with my old friend Monika, one of my study abroad buddies. Shes doing her med. residency at Yale in Conn, and im doing my jobless hobo begging in NYC slums. So we figured we both had a little time to go this weekend to see the fall colors at their prime!
this was my favorite picture. just the light was kinda nuts and creepy. so october-like...
day 1 was fun. i jumped on a train at grand central and headed to new haven only to be picked up by monika in her old squeeky volvo. We swung by AAA, got some maps and were greated rudely at the Hertz rent-a-car. Luckily they were out of our reservation so we got a black escape with sirius radio. We jumped on the 91 and headed north through conn, mass and into vt. Let me tell you how beautiful it was up there. kinda magical without many people around to ruin it. We drove for hours and saw festivals in small towns full of marlboro reds and 30 year old men with hightop dirty white sneakers and flannel shirts. I swear everyone's skin there looks like cow hide. too much smoking and drinking i guess?
We ended up stopping for dinner late.. around 8 and ended up in woodstock/quichee area (sp?). There was one jumping bar/pub full of yuppies in from out of town who must have been regulars during the ski season... but we ate like queens and watching the tigers win game 3. I thought a riot would errupt between the red socks lovers who wanted anyone but the yankees to win and the die hard yankees fans. With a happy buzz induced by soco and hot cider, vermont made blackberry beer, and an important win by the tigers, Monika and i Pranced off to a near by Comfort Inn. Of course we didnt actually sleep IN it. We thought we would be rugged and have fun and stay the night in the car outside the inn. I mean why not?
The next morning I woke up with a small child sized cramp in my neck and a sore throat brought on by the freezing air. Monika and I decided it would be in our best interest to partake in the continental breakfast being served in the comfort in. We snuck in our underwear and toothbrushes, grabbed muffins, coffee, and even had time to make a waffle...and did a ghetto shower in the bathroom before getting back on the road....
day 2 was lovely we went from an antique show, to a cheese/syrup making farm, to the ben and jerry's original homeground... to waterfalls, wine tasting and miles upon miles of red, orange, yellow and green scenery. it was breathtaking. After an entire day of driving we ended up back around a small town in the middle of vermont, and snuck into a Bed and Breakfast with the CUTEST little old people. It was a huge house owned by couple who were a mix between martha stewert, old hippies and rural simple lifers. He painted, she made nick nacks, and in the morning, after a long night of live music and chats at the local bar, the two served us apple stuffed french toast, bacon, fresh squeezed OJ, coffee, danishes, and fruit salad. Too much for one to handle but enough to make you fall inlove with the couple and the feel of vermont's simple life.
On Sunday morning after breakfast, we headed out, packed up and drove back through the beautiful fall colors back to conn.
Now im sick as a dog and in NYC wishing i was back there roaming around (o:
