mzrowan's news post:
Scholastic asks author to censor book, refuses to include it in their book fairs because one of the characters has two moms. The author, thankfully, is standing her ground on that point, but she did take out words Scholastic deemed offensive.
As also noted in the article, Scholastic gets authors to "clean up" their books to "meet the norms" in the communities where they're sold. In other words, you'd better self-censor if you want your stuff to sell.
Well. So much for buying anything from THAT company.

Scholastic has reversed their decision and will now include Lauren Myracle's book in their fairs. HOWEVER, the book is for children in grades 4 & 5, but it's only being included in middle school fairs. And Scholastic hasn't really explained their actions (they say they don't censor, but that contradicts what the author said). I don't think this is the end of the story, somehow. :P
