Penny Arcade on spoilers: Ha!

Got a bit more sleep last night. Anticipating a fairly busy day today.

Not that this is a surprise, exactly, but the M.C. Beaton Hamish Macbeth books and the Calderwood/Davies Hamish Macbeth TV series bear almost no resemblance to each other. (I'm working on fic that involves the TV series -- which I know like the back of my hand -- so getting caught up on book canon, if it had been relevant, would've been a pain in the backside. Me = relieved.)

The TV series contains stories that Beaton never wrote (at best, variations on them that make them almost unrecognizable) featuring characters who didn't exist in the books (or amalgams of them under different names), changes to Lochdubh and environs due to the series filming in Plockton which make it less like the Lochdubh in Beaton's imagination (among other things, her Lochdubh is much further north)... Official sanction means more money, public acceptance, and less slash -- but at times, there really isn't a whole lot of difference between adaptation and fanfic.
