Round: Three Category: Fan Fiction Title: Ashes to Ashes Author: natural_blue_26 Rating: PG Summary: Sometimes, love is so painful it morphs into another emotion entirely. Warnings: Spoilers for book #53
I'm so glad you wrote this. I guess the prompt just begged to be filled with the tragedy of Rachel dying.
I will always love Jordan-centric fic. I like the idea of Jordan trying to figure out her identity in the shadow of her sisters death, and her realizing just how little she knew about her sister, despite feeling so close to her. I love how you wrote Jordan here. I like her anger at the people mourning her sister like they knew her. I like her resentment that Rachel dared to die. I even like her sort-of-jealousy over Tobias seeming more important than Jorand herself. It's an interesting study of a character, and also of Rachel's death. I feel like it wasn't explored enough in the books AT ALL, so I'm thankful for fics like this!
My favorite bits: The little things are forgotten first- exactly the way her hair parted across the kitchen table in the mornings before it's brushed, the correct blue of her eyes and the way her handwriting slanted this way and before looping the other.
Everyone thought her sister was so freaking wonderful.
The cadence of her sister's laughter haunted her in the guise of the warm autumn wind that danced down the sidewalk beside Jordan when her family joined the sober procession leaving the service
Keep writing! Someone has to fuel my addiction, damnit.

I was honestly hoping we'd get some Marco or Jake fic (etc) dealing with Eva/Tom/etc to go with the prompt too, because due to their family situations some truly awesome gen-fic could have been written from their perspectives too, you know? From a 'if it doesn't exist CREATE IT perspective, I'll just have to add that to my really long fandom to do list I suppose.
But yes! Obviously this prompt was mostly All About Rachel! ^_^

Obviously we are conjoined fandom twins about this and many other things- snarky Rachel/Marco AND touching/tragic Rachel/Tobias for the win! Once again, 54 should have been a megamorph to help with these things, yes?
Thank you so much for including your favorite lines! Favorite type of review ♥
