. . . and Banned Books WeekI've read a blog post or two recently on The Banned Book that Changed My Life. These are really cool, and a great reminder of why it's vital that these books be accessible to everyone. I'd like to do something like this, but I can't think of one specific banned book that Changed My Life, so I'm just going to list a few ( Read more... )

But Nic! Julie makes friends with wolves! Wolves are mean and nasty and will kill you dead first chance they get! Didn't you get the memo?

Young impressionable children, who, as we've established, believe everything that they read, will therefore read this tool of Satan masquerading as a book, and try to make friends with real wolves...and DIE!!!!1

New headdesk - Maus being challenged for being "anti-ethnic" (according to the Huffington Post). Really?? I can only suppose that people just saw the swastika on the cover and didn't look closer and find out that it's pretty much the most widely acclaimed graphic novel of all time and a staple of Holocaust literature.

On the other hand, it's very odd and interesting that the ALA lists Twilight as being challenged for "religious viewpoint"! I'm sure whoever challenged that book meant well, but sorry, no, libraries have to stock Twilight and let teenagers read it.
