Burning your fingertips…0/10. Do not recommend.

Friends got married this weekend. I had their gifts wrapped and wanted to make them extra pretty. So I went ahead and bought a thingy to help me make pretty bows using my own ribbon. I remember when I was a kid my mother had one.

Ordered it like two weeks before the wedding, but that wasn't good enough. According to UPS it would arrive the day before the wedding. Then the day before the wedding came and tracking was updated to tell me it would arrive two days after the wedding instead. Well, damn.

So Friday night I spent making pretty bows by hand and ran into a problem I hadn't seen coming. How do I attack the bows? The thingy I ordered uses a pushtack and I didn't have that option. I struggled to tie it and tape wasn't working. The tape wasn't strong enough to hold onto these pretty and poofy bows. Then came the idea to use hot glue!

The first bow worked fine and after it dried, I found that hot glue works like a charm. Excellent. The second (and last) bow...ow. I thought I was being careful, but apparently I wasn't. My left ring finger got a good bit of the glue and as I jerked my hands away, my right middle finger got a swipe of it as well. I've used hot glue guns before and I have burned my finger tips many times before. When Adem looked over and asked if I was okay, I told him "Yes." and starts peeling off glue bits the best I could.

I checked the bow and then hurried off to the bathroom and ran my hands under cold water. The pain was pretty intense already and so eventually I just filled the sink and held my hands there for a bit.

Having done this in the past, after a few minutes I pulled my hands free, drained the sink and moved to dry off. Within seconds of having my hands out of the cold water I began having excruciating and throbbing pain in my left hand. I started crying soon after.

Clutching my hand, hurting really badly, and crying I decided to just "have a moment" on the bathroom floor until it calmed down. I slowly sand to my knees and bent over...

...only to hit my head on the bathtub.

In that moment I was slightly amused with what was happening. But I was still in a lot of pain.

Eventually Adem came in, found me, and then went off to get ice.

For four hours I was in such excruciating pain that I couldn't do much. I couldn't believe that such a tiny burn could cause so much pain especially since I have burned my finger tips before. But it turned out to be a second degree burn and a blister did form on that finger...and that hasn't happened before. Wow.

After the four hours the pain was down to that of what it normally feels like and I was able to go to bed.

Had to share because while it wasn't fun by any means, it does amuse me after the fact. I kept joking with Adem that our two soon-to-be-married friends better fucking LOVE my bows.

The blister is still there. It's small and seems pretty resistant to bumps and such. Doing my best to keep from popping it or tearing it as my finger heals.
