Just now, when listening to the Grieg A minor piano concerto, I heard portents of Gershwin. Or perhaps there are echoes of Grieg in Gershwin. Could this mean I'm finally growing out of my passive disdain for Gershwin? Probably not. But context is always appreciated.

I've found that I can't work in total silence, but that any sort of speaking or singing, no matter what the language, is even worse than nothing. So I've been dusting off my old bargain bin classical CDs to play. Thus far I've found Mozart or Bach or even early Beethoven is good background music for my horribly frustrating math interface, whereas Mendelssohn, Schubert and Brahms are what I prefer when I'm stuttering through essays. I still can't imagine the circumstances Ives would be appropriate for. I rather hope I'll never have to try.

Every moment is
nothing without end.
