TGIF baby...

So, life's been fun lately. I've been accruing many hours at work, which isn't terrible but I'd rather have the time to myself.

Last night was rehearsal, and I came away with the followling:

I really, really need to go to the eye doctor. Not being able to tell the difference between sharps and naturals is generally considered a Bad Thing.

I also really, really need to get a decent bow. My current bow is starting to lose tensions again, and I already poured a hundred bucks into it for that same problem only four months ago. Plus I think the balance is really off. I think I'll look into getting a carbon fiber bow this time around. The only problem is that none of the local shops have any in stock, and I kind of want to look at one before I buy it. Shar and Johnson have mail trials, but shipping stuff to and fro with all the requisite safeguards is a pain.

I can count to 1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9, and 12. I cannot apparently count to five. Mars is kicking my ass. No, seriously, I can play Jupiter and Uranus cold, but merely counting to five eludes me.

In relation to the above, I've been listening to the Planets a lot, because there are a lot of tricky passages. I've banned listening to Mars in the car, though, because it causes dangerously agressive driving.

Star Wars is getting there. There are a depressing amount of cuts, but it's still a blast to play through. Plus they added some stuff from E.T, thus sending my inner geek into stratospheric bliss.

I need to keep taking lessons. Orchestra is great for sight-reading, but I still have some problems with tone, and I can feel how atrocious my bow hold is getting. Plus, I really want to explore some of the solo works, and while I can do that now, I need the constructive criticism a teacher will give me.

Anyway, back to work...

PS - just because every one yells at me for not telling them... the July concert.

work, orchestra
