Your challenge for this month: hard-to-write characters.
We all have our favorites; the characters we relate to the most, the ones that are tapping us on the shoulder with a story idea every time we turn around. On the other hand, for most of us, there are also characters we can never quite figure out. This challenge is intended to give you a nudge with those mutants you just don't know what to do with. (But don't worry, you should have some help!)
Here's how it works:
1. Post a reply to this message, listing one or more characters you find difficult to write, for whatever reason. (Just someone who has never inspired you will do quite well. There's no need to try writing a character you really can't stand.) Be sure to specify whether you want to write comic, movie, or Evo.
2. Keep checking back on the responses here, and if you can, offer suggestions to the other members about what to do with the characters they list. Another person's hard-to-write character might be more familiar to you, so give them something to work with: an aspect of the character's life to expand upon, a situation to respond to, another character to interact with. Be as general or specific as you wish. Obviously, the more suggestions, the better! Even those who aren't participating in the challenge are welcome to offer ideas.
3. Write your fic about your hard-to-write character(s). Hopefully you'll be inspired by at least one suggestion from someone else.
There is no minimum or maximum word count for this challenge. And if you just can't find any inspiration, no worries; I'm simply hoping this will be a useful exercise for some of us. Exploring a character you may never have thought much about should help to stretch creativity.
