Junhyung stepped out of the car and closed the door behind him.

“Thanks for taking me home.” He said smiling down at the driver.

“It’s my pleasure” giggled the brunette behind the wheel before closing his eyes when Junhyung bent down to kiss his lips.

“Goodnight, Seungie. Drive safely.”

“Bye, Junnie. I’ll call you when I get home.”

“Okay.” Junhyung stood there and watched his lover drive away.

“You two won’t last long” said a voice making Junhyung jump out of his skin. He looked over his shoulder to find someone sitting on the wall in front of his house.

“What are you doing here, brat?” Junhyung furrowed his eyebrows after recognizing the one talking to him. That’s the boy next door, Yang Yoseob.

“I came to play, but you’re not at home, so I waited for you to come back.” The small boy shrugged, “And that guy is not for you.”

Junhyung rolled his eyes at Yoseob’s statement.

“You’re just a kid. What do you know?” He mumbled as unlocking his door.

“His beauty will fade some day. My cuteness lasts forever.” Yoseob said with a straight face.

Junhyung turned to look at him. His put on a serious expression as well, but within a second he burst out laughing.

“That’s not funny! It’s the truth!” whined Yoseob.

“Okay, I got it.” The older guy chuckled while the other wrinkled his nose. “It’s bed time for you, confident kid. Go home.”

Yoseob blinked at him for a few times before pouting, “I can’t climb down…”

“Yah… You’re such a troublesome kid.” Junhyung grunted, but he still made his way to the boy and lifted him off the wall.

“Thanks, hyung” grinned Yoseob before giving Junhyung a sudden peck on his lips and running away. “Goodnight!” He looked back and shouted to him.

Junhyung was so surprised that he couldn’t react. Once he collected himself, he shook his head and let out a sigh.

“This kid is hopeless.”

Yoseob, Junhyung’s neighbor’s son, was 8 years younger than him. When Yoseob was a kid, his parents were often away from home, and Junhyung was the one hanging out with him and taking care of him. Thus, the little boy was quite attached to Junhyung.

To Junhyung the kid next door was a very good boy. He rarely cried, Junhyung remembered so, and he had the great ability to entertain himself without bothering his babysitter. “Junhyung” was Yoseob first word, which made the older one adore him more. Whenever Yoseob went to his place, Junhyung gave him candies. He took Yoseob to the amusement park at weekend. He sometimes bought him toys as well. Junhyung’s younger sister often wailed about Junhyung loving Yoseob than loving her, but well, who wouldn’t love such a cute boy like Yoseob?

When Junhyung got into a college, had a part-time job and found a good looking boyfriend, he didn’t spend much time hanging out with Yoseob anymore. Yoseob was like a 10 year old kid no matter how Junhyung looked at him, but this kid had started to say ridiculous things to him lately. He was still so childish.

“‘My cuteness lasts forever’ huh? What a joke.” Junhyung snickered recalling the boy’s words earlier as stepping in his house and closed the door.

Junhyung curled up in the couch. His tired eyes glued to the TV screen. He was physically and mentally worn out. Being a rapper and a free composer drained his energy, and Hyunseung breaking up with him was the last straw. Junhyung almost broke down when the gorgeous brunette declared the end of their relationship.

‘How could he be like that?’ Junhyung kept asking himself.

They had been together since they were in college, before Hyunseung became a famous singer and Junhyung became well-known for his rapping and composing ability. They were classmates, lovers, partners, and colleagues. After all those years, how could Hyunseung leave him to be with another guy? Even though that guy was a popular and talent dancer, didn’t Hyunseung and Junhyung make a great pair as well?

“Go to hell, both of you…” Junhyung gritted his teeth watching his ex’s new lover’s performance on the TV.

“Oh my, you’re still alive!”

Junhyung was startled by a sudden voice. He looked over his shoulder and saw Yoseob eyeing him with a surprised expression which immediately turned into a sheepish smiling face when their eyes met.

“You’ve not left your house for a few days so I came to check if you’re still alright.”

“How did you get in?” Junhyung crossed his eyebrows totally ignoring the other boy’s explanation. “I locked all the doors.”

“You never lock the kitchen window.” reminded Yoseob getting Junhyung to slump back down in his spot.

“Are you sick?” Yoseob continued as walking closer. “Yah! You shouldn’t eat the unhealthy food when you’re sick!” He gasped seeing many chips bags and beer cans around Junhyung’s couch. Junhyung himself was a mess, too.

“I’m not sick. Shut up and get lost.” said the annoyed man under his blanket coldly.

Yoseob shook his head and dropped on his knees, began to collect the bags and cans.

“These things won’t make you feel better.” He mumbled.

“What do you know, brat?” Junhyung kicked up his blanket and shot Yoseob a glare.

A gentle smile spread on Yoseob’s face.

“A broken heart can’t be that bad.” He said softly, his eyes narrowed.

It left Junhyung speechless. What surprised him was not Yoseob’s nonsense sentence but his strange smile. There was the sympathy in his painful look that Junhyung had never seen before.

“Whatever, ridiculous kid.” grunted the rapper as averting his gaze to the ceiling.

“Oh my, this guy’s dance is so embarrassing! What’s ‘American dance’? Argh, my eyes…”

Junhyung chuckled inside at Yoseob’s blurt out. At least this carefree kid cheered him up a little bit. He smiled and closed his eyes.

After that time, Junhyung decided to focus on his job. He composed more songs and collaborated with more artists. He still worked with Hyunseung since they were a good team, as he had said. They were awkward toward each other at first, but after awhile everything became normal again. They were best friends after all.

“Thanks for taking me home.” said Junhyung stepping out of Hyunseung’s car.

“You’re welcome.” replied the wavy haired singer. “By the way, have you ever thought of owning a car?”

“Your boyfriend’s jealous or what?” Junhyung snickered.

“Nah, I just think it will be more convenient for you to have a car.”

“Okay, I’ll consider it. Bye.” He waved with a fake smile plastered on his face. Hyunseung was a talkative person. If Junhyung didn’t end the conversation first, he would keep babbling for hours and that’s what Junhyung’s ears couldn’t handle.

“Bye-yeom.” Hyunseung smiled back before driving away.

Once Hyunseung had left, Junhyung immediately replaced his smiling face with a poker face.

“He even learnt that stupid phrase from him” he murmured.

When Junhyung turned to his left, his eyes caught a familiar figure which was Yoseob in his uniform. That uniform was from a famous high school in the town, Junhyung noted. Wait, when did Yoseob go to high school?

“Hey, Junnie hyung. You’re home!” exclaimed Yoseob spotting Junhyung and running toward him.

“Hi, kiddo” blinked the older guy. “Nice uniform.”

“I know.” Yoseob smiled brightly. “I studied like crazy to get into this school for this uniform.”

“That’s all?” Junhyung raised his brows.

“Ha ha, nope. It’s just the beginning. My aim is Cube University, and I must study harder even more to get in there.” Yoseob couldn’t hide the excitement in his voice.

“That’s such a big dream, kid.” Junhyung patted Yoseob’s head while the other shut his eyes and stuck his tongue out.

“Ah yes, I have an appointment with my friend.” said Yoseob out of blue. He looked at his watch before glancing up at Junhyung’s face again. “I need to go now, talk to you later, hyung.”

“Later, Yoseob.” Junhyung smiled and waved at the shorter boy. His fingers stirred a little bit feeling the warmth lingering on them.

Junhyung didn’t realize many things had changed. The boy next door still looked exactly like a kid, but he’s actually a high school student now. His blue-white uniform fitted him well. In fact, Yoseob looked good in most of clothes he wore. He was as cheerful as always, yet he had become more confident and mature in some ways. Since they hadn’t hung out for awhile, Junhyung was kind of surprised meeting the new Yoseob.

‘Guess it’s a normal thing. All kids will grow up some day.’

Junhyung sipped his coke and looked out of his window. He saw Yoseob return home with a blond guy who was like a foreigner. They were bidding their goodbye before the blond bent down to kiss Yoseob’s cheek. Yoseob smiled back shyly and patted the taller boy’s head then walked into his house.

‘And they will have the love of their lives.’

Junhyung sighed and drew the curtain.

“I’m tired of fairy tales.” pouted the little Yoseob closing the picture book in Junhyung’s hands.

“Why?” Junhyung blinked at him.

“They’re boring.” Yoseob puffed his cheeks. “The Princess and the Knight are always together at the end.”

“Isn’t that a happy ending?”

“But why the Princess? Why not the Prince?”

Junhyung’s jaw dropped at the younger boy’s weird question.

“What are you talking about, kid?”

“If I were a prince and Junnie hyung was a knight, would us make a happy ending as well?”

“Yah, where did you get that weird idea from?” chuckled the babysitter while tucking the boy in his bed.

“I love Junnie hyung.” said Yoseob’s childish voice.

“You’re just a kid. What do you know about love? Now close your eyes and sleep.” Junhyung shook his head and pulled the blanket over the small kid’s body.

Junhyung’s eyes snapped open when he felt something cold and wet against his skin.

“Did I wake you?” Yoseob asked in a low voice.

“Ah, you’ve not dumped your trash for a few days so I came to check if your house’s filled with rubbish yet.” He continued seeing the question in Junhyung’s eyes.

“You always have reasons to break into my house, don’t you?” mumbled the brunette removing the damp towel on his forehead.

“I just worry about you.” Yoseob replied with a pout.

“How did you get in? I locked the kitchen window this time.”

“You forgot locking the window upstairs.”

Junhyung facepalmed imagining how the kid in front of him had climbed into his house through the small window beside the big tree in his backyard.

“You need to stop sneaking into my house, brat.” he growled.

“But you won’t open the door for me.” Yoseob kept pursing his lips.

“I don’t want to be disturbed while working.”

“You’re composing a new song?” gaped the black haired boy. “That’s cool!”

Just as he finished his exclamation, Yoseob grabbed the nearest paper on the floor to have a look.

‘A slim figure, petite height, small face, and soft hair. I want to have you and to embrace you. Everywhere I want you by my side.’
Junhyung chocked on his spit realizing what Yoseob was reading. He jolted up from his lying position and snatched the draft from his neighbor’s hand.

“Yah! Don’t touch my things without my permission!” Junhyung nagged ignoring the rising temperature on his face.

“But it sounds like me” stated the stunning Yoseob. “Did you write about me?”

He turned his innocent gaze to Junhyung making the other gulp unconsciously.

“O-Of course not!” The rapper stuttered as trying to act normal. “You’re just a kid, what do you know? Don’t think that you’re the only shorty with a small face in this world.”

“I see.” Yoseob’s face fell and he looked away.

Junhyung sighed in relief when Yoseob believed it so easily. He was a naïve kid after all. The rapper watched Yoseob draw his knees to his chest, his back was against the couch. He couldn’t explain the strange urge to hug the younger boy rising inside him, perhaps he wanted to feel his warmth again - a little bit longer.

“Hyung, do you know?” Junhyung snapped out of his thought once Yoseob started to speak again.

“Know what?” He gazed down to meet Yoseob’s eyes as the latter looked over his shoulder.

At that moment Yoseob blinked and flashed his favourite hyung the brightest smile ever.

“Some love never change.”

They stared at each other for a few seconds before Junhyung wrinkled his forehead.

“What are you talking about, kid? Why you keep wasting my time with those nonsense things?” He grumbled and shoved the boy hard making him fall on the floor.

Yoseob giggled as lying on his side.

‘Because I love Junnie hyung.’ A childish voice echoed in his head.

How he wished he could say it to Junhyung again - with his present manly voice, but his hyung would never get it. He was the one who knew nothing.

“Do you still like fairy tales, kid?” Junhyung asked suddenly.

“No, I’m fed up with them since I was six.”

“But this is a brand new story.”

Yoseob widened his eyes when Junhyung smirked down at him as offering him a hand. He took his hand and the brunette pulled him up.

“How new can a fairy tale be?” He rolled his eyes.

“The Prince and the Knight will be together at the end of the story.” whispered Junhyung in reply.

The next thing Yoseob knew was that he fell again. This time he fell into Junhyung’s tight embrace.

“I like you the best.”
